    That is easy. 1939

I was born in 1969, moved to Liverpool in 1988, when a new music scene was bursting out of the north west, then to Brighton in 1994, as a new British musical movement was taking place, then to Hampstead in 1995, when London was the centre of the music world, and then on to the best period of my life in 1996, when British music was dominant and we had a major football tournament in London. I stayed in London until 2008, at which point I moved back to Barnsley, just as the football club were on a high, with us reaching the FA Cup final at Wembley

Now replace the dates with a year 30 days previously, and change ‘reaching the FA Cup semi-final’ with ‘appointing the manager who would completely change the club’s direction’ and it all fits perfectly. Might even have timed my year in Brighton just right, so I can take Leslie Ash up a back alley (“Ooh, missus!” - it was the era of the Carry On films after all!)

I love history and there are so many things I'd have loved to have witnessed. But from a detached viewpoint with the door to the time machine ajar.
To have actually been born at the time of, say Alexander the Great, the odds are that you'd have been born a peasant and the only way of witnessing Gaugamela would have been at the pointy end of a sarissa surrounded by blood, s**t and urine as people were carved up around you.
Until the 20th century it was bloody hard being from the lower classes so I'll stick to making my arrival in 1960.

It would all depend on what class/level of society I was born into. All things being equal I would probably like to have born immediately post-ww2 in spite of the worry of nuclear war. With the development of the nhs, gradual narrowing of wealth and income levels, rock and roll, liberal developments like no death penalty, abortion rules relaxed and homosexuality allowed all in the pipeline. If I was wealthy, British and privileged then possibly the mid 19th century given that some of the 'positive' developments didn't exist. (my wealth and privilege would be peaking at that time I think and there was no threat of nuclear war)

I was born in June '71, so the early 80s onwards were the best time for me.. for various reasons. :)
