Should we sign Isted, would it be time to cash in on Collins as I'd guess he would command a half decent fee? I just can't see him wanting to be understudy for someone now, especially as we also have Searle atm.

Can't see Collins staying if Isted signs. It's a shame, because every team needs a solid No.2, but I understand why Collins won't want that. I'm assuming that if Isted is signing, he's been given some level of assurance on getting the No.1 shirt.

We need to generate cash. To me signing Isted and selling Collins is the sensible option. Both good keepers especially at League One level. Collins has success in the Championship on his cv and, fingers crossed, might command a transfer fee that would see us make a reasonable profit over the two deals.

Yeah, I can see Collins going regardless to be honest. Especially if he can get the number 1 shirt somewhere else. I've heard he's on much more than Isted was at Luton, so it would make good business sense.

As well as Searle, we have Hayton who we signed from Spurs in January.

It’s only sensible IF we have someone lined up for Collins, having 2 decent keepers is a waste of our limited budget, it won’t be great for team spirit either if one is unhappy playing no. 2 all season.

Might not be a popular opinion but if Collins isn’t going anywhere I’d rather sign an up and coming keeper as number 2 and use the left over Isted wage to top up our budget for a new striker

I’ve read Isted was on less than Walton, but that was a loan agreement where we might not have been paying all of his Luton wage and if we were paying it all he’s now worth a lot more, I doubt he’ll be able to demand as much as Collins but it won’t be cheap. Would be bonkers to be paying Collins wage to sit on the bench.

Either would be more than good enough for a title challenge imo, but we really don’t need both.

Ideally Collins goes and Isted signs, but if that’s not possible I’d just stick with Collins

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. If we have a buyer it's good business.
There's no way we should be keeping both in the financial situation we're in.

Only need one of the 2 keepers. So if he does sign, that’s Collins going.

My only reservation, is that we’re losing a good keeper in Collins, who is far more experienced than Isted.

Isted came into a winning team, and kept it going. He’s not had the flip side of relegation, poor players and loss of form to deal with yet - that’s what hardens a keeper up.

Jack Walton came in under Struber, and did brilliantly too.

Who's the current no. 3 keeper?

Yeah. He did a decent job at Cambridge, keeping the clean sheet after Collins's injury & Kitching red card. Should be an Ok no. 2 & as others have suggested, better getting money for Collins than keeping 2 top keepers at Div 1 level.

Guessing perhaps Collins perhaps won’t be extending his deal beyond the contract extension so he will be off either before the season starts or after it. Maybe Isted is the longer term signing on much more favourable wages.

Doubt Isted was on much at Luton given his experience was basically non league upto signing his new contract.

Didn’t realise that, wow. He’s got to be demanding the wage of a decent league one keeper after the way he’s played this season, with him being a free agent there must be some competition as well, I can’t see him coming on the same wage

Didn't Jack Walton make his debut near the end of the Morais relegation season, when Adam Davies had become a liability by that time.
I think it was an awful defeat away at Notts Forest, who actually had nothing to play for then.

Transfermarkt, for what it's worth, values Collins at £700k.

He’s got 1 year left on his contract, 700k can’t be right for a keeper

At the same time, he's 26 and still only played less than 25 football league games. I don't think he'd command that big of a wage. I guess he's still quite young for a keeper too. He could easily be playing at a good level for at least another 10 years.
