Would be a great signing IMO. He's a bit behind Cadden in the wing back role, but decent pace and a bit like a terrier when it comes to tackling. As others have said, fantastic attitude & Duff has been impressed with his efforts in training & on covering Cadden + most other appearances. That free kick was also a serious contender for goal of the season, so it's madness to suggest he doesn't offer anything in attack. Interestingly, assuming wiki is correct, him and Cadden share the same birthday (19th September) and exactly 6 years between them.
I'm getting there. I'd like to see him playing further forward with defensive cover behind him. He looks like he's already bust a gut in attacking situations.
Really like Cadden i think he got better and better longer the season went on and always looked a threat going forward. Haven’t we got that Edunio Vaz on the books now who is a left wing back so if that’s case i wouldn’t bother with Larkeche.
Indeed. Hopefully discussions are taking place already, rather than potentially letting the grass grow.
Scored one of the best free kicks I've seen at Oakwell and I haven't seen him take one since. Having said that Phillips scored a pearler later in the season too only to be immediately taken off free kick duties. We must have some talent when neither of those two are first choice.
Is Larkeche any better than Charlie Winfield, as a back up left back? More concerned that we get Cadden's contract extended.
Cadden has to be first choice. Improved so much during the season, particularly defensively. His battle with Bradley in the play-offs was the highlight in both games. It would be nice to have a back up and Larkeche would be a decent one but I'm not sure we can afford two players for every position.
I tend to agree. Duff spoke very highly of how he ‘drove standards’ in training when he was on loan here. That says a lot to me - it’s rare in a young players, but also pushes others too. It’d be a decent signing for that alone - it can’t be underestimated.
Could be a great signing for us and still got loads of room for improvement especially if he gets given a regular run of games.
I like him but I find it hard to believe we’ll get him permanently. Just doesn’t make much sense. He’ll have to play second fiddle & will need to take a huge pay cut at an age where he could do with regular football. I’ll happily be proven wrong but I can’t see it happening.
He might have to take a pay cut from what he's been on at Fulham, but as his contract is up and hasn't been renewed, it's irrelevant. Come July 1st he'll be earning less than most of us on here unless he gets a contract sorted. I'm sure he'll find a club, but I can't imagine anyone will be ready to pay him loads - especially the ones which can guarantee him first team football.
I don’t think anyone will pay him loads but I imagine there’s a big difference between Fulham wages & what we would offer for a back up left wing back. I’d be surprised if a 20 year old who’s been on the books at PSG & Fulham is willing to take a deal like that. If I was advising him & couldn’t get him better wages I’d be looking at a shorter term deal at a club lower down the pecking order somewhere where he’s much more likely to start games & quickly get back on better money at a bigger club again.
Yep, I agree with you there. Relatively low salary at Barnsley and no first team guarantees vs even lower salary at Bristol Rovers, but with much more chance of regular first team football. Seeing as the wages we pay are unlikely to be life-changing, first team football has to be the aim at this stage of his career. Having said that, if we are thinking of him as a long-term replacement for Cadden and this is made clear to him, one more year as understudy might also seem like a reasonable deal from Larkeche's point of view.
