Not a lot really , being as that at his best he would probably only attract lower championship clubs or division one as many clubs use the loan system & borrow keepers from the premier league but getting him off our wage bill might be a financial plus .
I maybe have gone a bit strong in my choice of wording but I’m not just talking about this thread, which, particularly after my post does have a bit more balance; but on threads since Isted came into the team there has been a heck of a lot of very strongly worded support for Isted and criticism of Collins from a lot of supporters. I think more than a minority as well - though of course not all. To my eye there has been unfair imbalance of the amount of tolerance of Isted’s weaknesses and mistakes compared to Collins, whilst Collins attributes seemed to be dismissed whilst Isted was ‘bigged up’.
I’m not going to spend the time going through all the specific games as I haven’t time, it’s my first week back at work after two weeks off, though I’m sure someone could name the games. I’ll respond while I smash my lunch down though. He conceded five or six poor goals at his near post (or involving him making errors or being in a poor position at his near post). All a consistent issue. I remember one at MK, I wasn’t impressed with goal we conceded at Bolton in the first playoff semi, and there were several others. You say it’s bizarre I say Isted was directly at fault for more goals this last season than Collins. So I’ll ask the same question back. If you harshly judge Collins to be at fault for being chipped against Wycombe, that’s one, what other goals were Collins errors? Don’t get me wrong, there probably are one or two, but I genuinely don’t recall them. This isn’t an ‘attack Isted’ post. I do rate him. I’d be happy to have him. But I maintain that some go over the top in their praise of him and that certainly some go over the top in criticising Collins.
I base my opinion on qualities so do you according to your posts . but you also throw in more errors as a given I just disagree. we dont agree on the issue and I'll leave it at that. B4 we know it. It'll be Shilton and Clemence lol.
I agree with you, and would include Exeter's first two goals and also Burton's, when I think Isted, conscious of his earlier failings, was possibly over-compensating for the earlier errors and was actually standing right by the post, in a poor position to deal properly with the cross that came in. Isted has made some excellent saves; of that there is no doubt, but errors on his part have been far from rare.
Shilton or Clemence ehh... aww that's unfair on the 3rd choice at the time, Joe Corrigan lol. But when you think of our 2nd choice keepers ehh... Ian Wardle to Clive Baker, Phil Whitehead to Lee Butler, Lars Leese to David Watson, and Ben Townsend to Adam Davies. Its not great is it being a 2nd choice keeper.
What about Steve Cooper ,went in pegs at Port Vale away when Wardle broke his leg. Was bizarre him heading it out instead of catching it.
Or Hassell mate. He was amazing when he went in goal at Rochdale. After the sending off. (Can't remember who was in the nets. But can picture the incident. The wassack)
If you are looking at reliable performance with fewer errors you would always pick Collins. Also better with his passing. If you are looking for a keeper that can produce absolutely world class saves but with an error in him you go Isted. Both have merits but given his record you’d trust MD to decide.
He was better competion for Collins than the previous understudy. Both good keepers which was healthy for us. Wouldn't be gutted if he signed elsewhere, but hope he signs as this would be good for BFC . Equally I would be happy to see Collins in goals if he doesn't sign. Can't see any other clubs forking a fee out for Collins. Probably wait and get him on a free.
Ben Alnwick. We were winning and it was just about injury time, and he decided to headbutt an opponent with the ball in his hands, concede a penalty and get sent off. We somehow managed to win it in extra time despite conceding another penalty. Worst thing was Luke Steele was injured and the suspension applied to the league so we were left without a keeper. Brain dead.
It’s great to read on here the highly qualified goalkeeping coaches and ex-pros give their expert opinion of a goalie that occasionally makes a mistake and/or concedes a goal.
Think it must be time for an advert break from this thread. Collins is a reliable performer. Isted makes some worldy saves. They're both great keepers, but which one is the best? There's only one eye to find out ...... FIGHT!!!!
