We often cycle to a village pub along the canal on a weekend, have a pint then cycle back. 5 miles each way, nice and chilled. Except one of my pedals fell off 4 miles in, and stubbornly refused to stay attached. Made it to the pub with the plan of having a think over a pint how to mend it. Failed miserably. Just made it back, after cycling for 5 miles in the blazing sunshine with only one pedal. I know that the guys in the Paralympics make cycling with one leg look easy, but believe me, it really isn't.

Bet you wish you'd had more than one pint now!

Least you had one pedal working. Had the rear mech hanger snap once about 7 miles from home, hills and downhills between me and there, down hills were ok up hills and odd flat bits were walking and pushing the bike. Not fun!!!

When I was 18 I buckled the rear wheel of my racer going down hill at speed. (4 spokes pinged). Pushed the bike all the way to Sheffield rail station, expecting to get on a train. It was a Sunday and the line was closed. There was a replacement bus service, but no bikes allowed. I then pushed it all the way back to Barnsley. Beat that!

I think I’d have left the bike at the bus stop.

When I was a young lad of 61. I did a sponsored bike ride. I cycled all the way to John O'groats frumpt tarn on a unicycle with one leg. And one pedal. In reverse. First I Got to Hadrian's wall and got bricks thrown at me by blokes wearing kilts. When I eventually got there. I had a saddle fitted. Non stop (apart from having to buy them buggers in kilts drinks to leave me alone) . took mi 3 days 27hrs and 87 minutes no sleep.
Cycling then on to my final destination lands end. Having to stop at Manchester to take some Suppositories and vaseline. (Damn saddle made me saddle sore) I then stopped near Bristol after I was attacked by pirates and had to fix a puncture. Having to blow up the tyre wi mi lungs. (I'd forgot the pump). I got within half a mile of lands end and the chain broke. I decided I'd had enough bad luck and thought **** it I'm ending mi journey now. I got **** all sponsorship money cos I didnt complete the journey. Tight ******** .

    You did ask J P.
    Beat that.

Great pub. We sometimes stop there but it's only a couple of miles from home, so we decided to cycle up to Burton Waters today, which was where the pedal incident occurred!

I've just ordered a new bike, getting delivered on Monday. Saxilby is next weekend's pub aim! We live on the Brayford.

Opposite direction to Bardney is a decent ride too.
Bear in mind from BW you’ll need to go on main road for some of it to Saxilby.
