I think it's deliberate, because of his move into midfield. To be named after both Beckenbauer and Busquets, is quite something.
Just my opinion like but I think he should start thinking about retirement and finish his career at his home town club. So see you next season John. Sure your next 5 years back with us whinding down to retiring will be just as important as this season. REDS!
https://archive.is/bItos Great piece by Henry Winter. Lots of Barnsley mentions too and nods to his early days.
I don't see him as the kind of character who'll go off to Madrid or Milan, reckon he'll stay at City for the rest of his career, apart from the last year, when he's 34, he can have that one with us.
About time he got the recognition he deserves. For some reason, since he gave the ball away at Everton trying to play out from the back he’s been crucified by large sections of the english media and at best, been very much underrated One of the best players in the world and the best English centre half I have seen in my lifetime imho
Now he's achieved everything with City, he should start a new project; getting Barnsley into the Prem.

Thanks for posting that. Great piece. We should all take pride in Stones, as he is a fantastic example to our young players, both on and off the pitch
Brilliant read. Thanks SR. Although I rarely follow anything on the football field other than Barnsley FC. These stories praising one of our own. Gives me a lump in the throat. Especially as he still comes across as a Humble lad. Met him once to talk to in 2011 and I got that impression then. As I mentioned in another thread. I think in a world of greed re prima donna footballers. Traipsing all over the world in search of money not giving a toss about playing the game for achievement. He's not one of them. He'll never be short of money (that's a fact) or true friends as I get the impression he still loves the people and the area he was brought up in. Even offering advice etc to up and coming footballers in the village. I hope he never proves me wrong.
