According to the Sheffield Star, we're still waiting to hear the decision over Adam Phillips' red card at Wembley. As it stands, he's due to miss the first 3 games of the season.

My apologies if this is already common knowledge, I just don't recall seeing that we'd appealed the decision.

That's news to me , I've not seen that anywhere.
Only heard from a good source Howard Webb had apologised to Duffy for the two big desicions that were made at Wembley.
Surprised me when I heard the ref had been promoted to the Premier league.
Thinking about it it shouldn't come as a surprise.

His promotion had been on the cards for some time, he refereed two or three Greed Leaggue games last season.
As did Darren Bond who's also been promoted.

According to the chronicle, there are still discussions being had on whether to appeal

Mmmm await the outcome of that one with great interest. Just what are the possible verdicts?
    Upheld or rescinded. Any others?

Upheld and one more match added on for a frivolous appeal.

I dont think anyone could seriously suggest it was a frivolous appeal given even the comments of many of the media at the time. Id expect it to be upheld but then again Mowatt got a worse one overturned a couple of seasons ago - not in such a high profile match with VAR though

It would never be deemed frivolous given the general concensus of the tackle. They’d not deem it us trying it on.

They don’t tend to add games for failed appeals anymore; they started doing that when people used to appeal just to have the suspension moved a bit if they had a big game. It changed a few years ago when the bans were moved to being straight away, and any appeal had to be before the next game. Before that, suspensions were applied a couple of weeks after the incident, at least a couple. You’d see appeals going for blatant two footers etc and the hearings took a while to come through, so the bans were suspended. Not anymore, changed it quite a few years ago so there’s less need for the frivolous appeal rule. It’s still there - but there’s less motivation to appeal obvious red cards. This clearly isn’t an obvious red, far too many people in the game with no affiliation to Barnsley felt it at least harsh and in the main, wrong. Even if it didn’t succeed, I see no prospect of the ban being extended.

It has to be worth an appeal, assuming the monetary cost of doing so isn’t ridiculous. Nothing else to lose and in my view a very good chance of success. Especially if the rumour of Webb apologising to Duff is true.

The article I read said that you only have 2 working days to apply for an appeal. So if we were to appeal, we'd have had to have done it by now.

All of this has reminded me of the
start of second half of the final. First the penalty incident which I wasn’t too put out about, thinking that I wouldn’t have wanted that to be given be given against us. Then being being both gobsmacked when he flourished the red card at Philips and at the same time confident that it would be withdrawn by VAR. How could I have been so gullible? Will we see some sort of justice with an appeal? Not a snowballs.

Can't see the appeal being successful because it was reviewed by VAR. But if that was given as a red card during a regular league game, or the play off semi final, it would be rescinded every time.

There have been quite a few Red cards rescinded after VAR either upheld or instigated them so if we were for example Man Utd or Arsenal we would be in with a chance. Dont expect anything with this one

I don't have any issue really with the ref getting the decision wrong. It's a fast paced game and in general he did a decent job on the day.

It's VAR who simply ought to have at least said to the ref, take a look on the monitor and see what you think. Then it is up to him whether he stands by the original call.

Any ref worth their salt would have assessed the situation and checked VAR first, before making such a game-changing decision. He may still have given a red, but at least it would have been made calmly. He couldn't wait to get that card out. As for Webb, he can stick his apologies up his ar$e. They mean nothing, when the mistakes just keep happening.
