Khaled has said in an interview with the Yorkshire Post that Everton are due £2.5m from Man City for Stones winning the Champions League, and some of that will trickle down to us.

When people sneer at the term 'retain an interest in their future', just remember, we're still receiving money for a player we sold over 10 years ago.

Trouble is, I think there’s only Mawson that’s been sold since that has seen a sell on materialise. Not sure if Brentford or Luton’s promotions got us anything. I’m guessing not in Luton’s case, otherwise that would’ve been brought up in this interview as well.

Hourihane, Winnall, Bree, Lindsay and Moore all sold with us retaining an interest, which ultimately led to nothing.

One of kind sale for us in my opinion, I can't genuinely see us producing someone who will reach the achievements of John Stones.

I don't doubt the ability of our academy/development staff etc, but I think in terms of earning from the "future" it'll be extremely minimal for anyone else.

Holgate is another we have retained an interest in, so hopefully he will leave Everton for a few million and we get a nice wedge

I don't agree with us selling on the cheap, in the hope that we'll get a decent fee in the future from a further sell on. But retaining an interest, no matter how small the future benefit is, surely is always a positive. Obviously, some players will fall out of contract at their next club, but not all of them. Particularly with our model of signing relatively young players, there's always the scope for them to get a big move somewhere down the line.

I reckon there's instances of us receiving smaller amounts of money from invested future interests that we never hear about. It all helps in the long run. The Stones sale will always get flagged as we've made the best part (if not more than) £10m from him. At least if there's a clause in there, there's always the potential for us to benefit later down the line. It's another revenue stream, and a potentially lucrative one.

What was the sell on for Stones? 20% of profits? That’s another 500k in the coffers potentially, so that’s really good. Makes a big difference at our level.

Seems to be 15% so we’d get £375k. Still can’t grumble ten years on.

Plenty enough for the club to invest in a permanent fan zone once and for all. Easy money that wouldn't have been factored into the accounts. Would be lovely to see the board reinvest the money made from a Barnsley-born star, back into the fans and the future of the club. We could call it the John Stones Zone, with videos of the Barnsley Beckenbauer playing on repeat :)

Yeah, would go along with that. As long as we sell for a reasonable fee, then sell ons will be a bonus.

£375,000 in League 1 is a decent centre forward.

Did we have a sell on clause for Pinnock?

He seems likely to get a big sale price if he moves.

Pretty sure we will have. He's just signed a new contract, so will be a while before he moves on. He's 30 now, so likely passed his maximum value.

I'd rather it be spent on demolishing the West Stand. "Pull it darn".

In Conway's days we'd have lost money selling Stones.

Are we due any more money for Morris and Woodrow because of Luton’s promotion? I couldn’t see anything about it on our website

What's the £375k based on? My brain isn't computing it. I thought we got a big wedge when he went to City for £40m, so what's the new number?

Based on a clause of us getting 15% of any profit that Everton make on the player. City winning the Champions League has given Everton a reported windfall of £2.5m. And the assumption is we get 15% of that.
