Read the OP: 'Khaled has said in an interview with the Yorkshire Post that Everton are due £2.5m from Man City for Stones winning the Champions League, and some of that will trickle down to us.' 15% of 2.5m is 375k.
I seem to recall there was significant chat on here that we didn't get much for Stones, as Rowing didn't realise how good he could be. It's good that we're still profiting, but we probably should have had more.
We could probably asked for more and got it up front without a sell on. If you'd told us at the time we were going to get north of 10 million for him we'd have been ecstatic. In retrospect we've done pretty well out of him.
At least in the case of Morris we would have been a bit short sighted not to have insisted in some sort of promotion clause. It would essentially be a drop in the ocean for them. Maybe same with Woody and don't forget Walton.
£1.5m up front was scandalously low - even a blind man could see he was an exceptional player. We got very lucky with the sell-ons, because there was plenty of speculation of Stones leaving Everton a year or so earlier at a much lower fee.
Surely, if Villa retained an interest on Bree they would have got a nice chunk when he went to Southampton, so we’d get a slice? But, usually, if we get nothing from a sell on clause it really means we got a good deal, as we were the last ones to get a decent transfer fee for the player. Providing, of course, we don’t take a lower initial payment in lieu of a higher sell on clause, like Man City did when they gave us Taggart for £100k plus a 50% sell on.
In the case of Bree, I think it's unlikely. They might've got a sell on from Luton selling to Southampton, but not enough to put them into profit on the player overall. Kieffer Moore would be a similar story. They'll have got a sellon when he moved from Cardiff to Bournemouth, but not enough to put them into profit. Or if they did, our 15% of that would be nominal. Sometimes, it might mean we got a good deal, sometimes not. Not sure Villa will have any complaints with the deal they did for Hourihane. He might've walked for free, but he helped them to promotion.
At the time of sale I think everybody thought we were short changed but I think most would have found around 5 million as acceptable. To think by accepting certain conditions we've made around 10 million on John.It shows the powers that be understand the workings of transfer deals far more than we do. Well done John on all you've acheived.Very proud from watching you as a bairn to where you are now.
If Man City sell him for £100m, we’ll get £7.5m. Which means we would be able to afford another season in League one. Happy days..
According to Transfermarkt, we got 3.5 million euros for Stones. I'm not sure what the exchange rate was at the time, but I always thought we got between £2.25 million and £2.5 million up front from Everton.
Should use some of the 375k to get back the guy who did the flatbreads that the club supposedly messed about.
Kayden Jackson I think we had a 50% sell on for him when he went from Accrington to Ipswich for over a million. I know hardly massive sums but every little.
Don't know how true it is but I heard Everton were wanting to give us a few million to cancel the sell on clause from the contract the season they sold him. We refused obviously.
Players who still have the potential to get us a sell on fee. Jacob brown- stokes poty last season hopefully leaves for big money soon. Pinnock- knocking on abit now just signed a new deal with Brentford so it's doubtful. Holgate- been alot of rumours Everton want rid, their fans also aren't keen. Probably a championship club if he moves.
