Seeing as it’s Friday and the Chronicle’s out I was just remembering when it was the big day of the week. I worked in Leeds and lived in York and used my lunch hour to drive to Darton to pick one up. It was the only contact we got with the club. Signing George Boardman made my weekend. Anyway, I live in Cambridge now and it’s a long way to Darton, so is there any transfer news today?
If I was at my Grandmothers on a Friday as a kid she would read out the death and birth notices , for a long time I thought that was the only thing in the Chronicle
I bought it the Friday before the play-off final because it had a supplement but I can't remember the last time before that, probably when we went up under Stendal. Used to be a ritual but it's a waste of money now. It's just a bigger version of Independent.
Years ago, probably before the Internet, buying papers was the norm. You usually had a daily paper, the chronicle and one or two Sunday papers delivered by a paperboy. Then you would go to the shop weekly or fortnightly to pay the paper bill. These days I walk down to my local shop every Saturday morning to buy a paper and a couple of lottery tickets. It sometimes takes me all week to read it and then it all starts again. I just don’t see the need to get a paper every day and I imagine many people are the same.
Used to buy every week, think I’ve bought twice since that Tory advert. At the time people defended the advert as just income, wonder how many are sold now ?it’s not even printed in Barnsley now
Yorkshire Post. Class paper, and under James Mitchinson, it's absolutely brilliant at holding this corrupt government to account. They really, really don't like that lying cuπt Johnson - see this morning's front page editorial as a prime example. Also their ongoing expose on the corruption up on Teesside has got Simon Clarke and Ben Houchen absolutely shi**ing themselves - their desperate, often personal attacks on Mitchinson are hilarious. Also Leon Wobschall's coverage of us is really good. Buy a copy, subscribe, whatever.....
I was a paperboy. Worst days of the week Fridays & Sundays! No days off working seven days a week from the age of 12.
