They just don’t stop do they?! Overheard a conversation about the Play off final yesterday. Talking about having twice as many fans than Barnsley at Wembley. “Oh way more” was the comment. Strange that someone things 46k is way more than double 25k but even stranger is that their entire conversation was talking about the crowd, not the game. There was even the gold nugget of Barnsley being allocated the best Wembley pubs because the police wanted Wednesday fans to drink away from Wembley because they couldn’t handle the numbers. Deluded. No other club has ever taken 46k to Wembley. Never.
I'm over it to be honest. I know it must be difficult when you're married to one! But the Wednesday fans on the tube were sound, despite us being outnumbered by around 20:3. We had a chat about the game before hand and everyone was reasonable. Yes their fans are obsessed with numbers, good luck to them. Perhaps they all work in finance. I just remember a dogged performance where the lads gave their all, and the heartbreak at the end. It's done now, we move on.
I kid you not, I have been told 53k by a Wednesday fan!!! Apparently there were another 7000 in corporate that didn't get added into the official attendance. Them corporate boxes must be some size unless they specially extended them for royalty of football pigs!!
I had successfully wiped it from my mind, and avoided all local radio…. but listening to that conversation you just know that the fable will just grow and grow. And yes, most of the people we met were fine - just amazes me that the same people i saw wanting Moore sacked and berating their inexcusable season just ten days before Wembley are the very same ones now predicting top 6. (or in some cases higher) for Wednesday. I genuinely hope they bomb.
Quietest fans to ever grace Wembley, they were embarrassing in the 2nd half, l wouldn't go bragging if I was them.
They’re the absolute weirdest fans I’ve ever come across. They respond to every post by the club even still but they’re even seemingly just looking up posts containing the word “Barnsley” on Twitter to respond to such as this strange thread where 6 or so of them pile on to a post about a fire in Barnsley?? Because they won the third division play offs?? Very embarrassing to be fair and shows this is very much a pinnacle for them.
To be honest I was a bit disappointed with their attendance figures, was expecting at least a few million would have been making the pilgrimage to Oakwell South ‘cos they are massive don’t you know
Ask em how many they took to an F.A. cup final replay against Arsenal in the nineties, that should shut em up
My reply to these individuals would be ..yes you did but they were the quietest ever on record at a playoff final which might I add you won with the help of dodgy var decisions oh and incase you forgot the general consensus by independent analysts and a hell of a lot of Wednesday fans with a brain Barnsley were the better team on the day, all of which it took you virtually to the last few seconds of the game to beat ten men.... So many so little noise ...unless your on a fishing trip or sat behind your keyboard.. my little warrior lol
I'm not over it, never will be. Living in Penistone they're unbearable. Not been out for a pint since Wembley I can't cope with em, went to Meadowhall last night and turned my head when walking past the shop they have. This defeat has bloody hurt me deeply.
I particularly enjoy; "Impressive numbers. What percentage of them wanted Moore and most of the players out of the club a couple of weeks earlier?"
As they don't turn out in such numbers wekk on week I think it's fair to Summise You only went to see The Barnsley
I worked in Penistone for 40 years and can imagine how you feel. My mates laugh how much I detest them but that defeat will hurt for the rest of my days. If we pass them on the way back up it might help a bit
