If he wants to go, then the question the board need to be asking, and doing something about, where possible, is why does he want to leave?

Or it could be like Luton losing their manager and the same bunch of players carrying on as normal and not dropping off, if anything get better under a new guy.

bigger club, bigger budget, higher league. None of those things the Club can do anything about.

Now loads of noise from the Swansea fans on Twitter but I guess they’re probably just getting carried away a bit and all jumping on the rumour.

I don’t get how Duff would feel he has taken us as far as he can after 1 season of getting to the playoff final, especially given we should have a fighting chance of going one better than that this upcoming season.

I know we don’t keep coaches and players very long but after all the talk of being loyal and seeing a project through, I’d be very disappointed if Duff were to leave this summer.

Not a bigger club tbh in my opinion, there ground holds 21k, 15k average home fans, under 1k away fans, very similar to ours. Our training facilities in my opinion will be as good and our u18s have just won league and play offs.

We get promoted if Duff stays more than likely so would be in same league. Higher budget yes If they have this new investment. All comes down to money like always.

Personally I would be disappointed in Duff if he left for the first opportunity. Would be another Ismael.

If he decides to leave, it won’t all be about Swansea. They’re a club that will be expecting top 6, but the budget will be well short of top 6 in the championship and they’ll have been playing in a style completely opposite to his.

This idea that the club can do nothing has to go in the bin. The board need to make the club a place that people are actually happy to stay at.
Luton didn’t lose their manager after every successful year though.

I don't know what's going to happen re Duff. Will wait and see.

One thing we can't be doing is starting from scratch every year. It rarely leads to even medium term success. As a fan, you start to wonder what you are supporting. Hope is part of the game.

I honestly don't believe that would be his thinking. His job with us has barely started. It's just a bigger job all round, nothing we can do about that.

Completely agree with this. If he goes, it will definitely feel to many like we're back to square one. We find ourselves in this mad position where any degree of success, and we're resigned to losing our manager unless we get promoted. Unsustainable, and really harsh on the fans.

I suspect that will be his thinking sadly. If he were to get us promoted, there’ll be better jobs than Swansea open to him. The board need to be trying to convince him that that is possible. If we can’t, then sadly it’ll be a case of new board same story.

There seems to be a thinking within the club, going back to the Cryne years and when Johnson left, that the head coach is just a replaceable cog in the wheel. And can easily be replaced without affecting the long term future of the club. I think this is wrong and part of the reason we are not a championship club now.

Exactly this. If we lose Duff, we give the likes of Derby and Bolton a head start on us again next season. While a new coach will have his own views on formations and certain players, leading to more deadwood on the wage bill.

If he goes then the hopes of keeping Andersen, Connell etc is all but diminished & yes we will be back to square one in that case, in fact probably worse off than the start of last season which puts a massive dent in any automatic promotion hopes. Such a shame because this leave is significantly weaker than last season so should have been a great season next season!

Would be gutted if he left but don’t necessarily think we’d be back to square one has I’d expect the board to appoint someone with similar beliefs and values although whoever that may be if we have another good season next year we will probably be in this situation in a years time and that’s the frustrating part of all of this.

Duff is a smart man, it won't be his thinking as how can he possibly think he has taken us 'as far as he can' in one season resulting in play-off defeat? The praises from this board for Duff have been endless, they know his worth and I'm sure they'll be doing everything to keep him. I also think Duff is a loyal guy and personally think he'll stay unless it comes down to family/geography (even though Swansea is still a stretch from Cheltenham).

The pull of Swansea will be bigger wages in a higher league. That's where it ends for me though. I really hope Duff will want to build on last season, the success on the field and the transformed culture that he has been instrumental in, off it. But ultimately it will come down to Duff.

I'm sure the Club will do everything they possibly can to convince him to stay. I certainly don't think it will be a case of 'compo met, off you go'. But there will probably be clauses in his contract, which mean the Club are obliged to inform him of interest and allows him to speak to another Club if that happens. I don't think that's a criticism of the Club, I reckon that's probably just common practice in most manager contracts these days.

We're not a big Club. We're in the 3rd division. As frustrating as it is, there's just nothing we can realistically do, if a big enough Club comes in with the right offer for any of our staff. And I include everyone in that, from background staff to the CEO. We've been on the right and wrong end of that.

104 miles Cheltenham to Swansea. Not sure he would move and do a 208 mile round trip every day so that he could be back home every night.

It is because of this, that I think that if, and I don’t know how big an if that is, he leaves for Swansea then I will think it is a failure of the board. I don’t think he would go there if he is satisfied with the information from the club on budgets and recruitment / retention plans means we can improve on last season.

Sadly, I don’t think this would still be a live story if Duff hadn’t shown some interest back to Swansea.

A better fit for Swansea would actually be Ian Evett. But Bolton of course can feel more confident of keeping him because they’ve just tied him down to a new contract.

If he stays with us and gets us up and semi sustained in the championship, he gets better offers than Swansea in my opinion. Few ifs in there but surely the feeling is around the club that we’ll be challenging this season with Duff here.
