Isn’t that what we tried last season? Twice.

It was and the solution to buying young players who develop and get snapped up... get sold 2 injured blokes from Belgium one with loads of experience even in Europe.

The only solution really seems to be promotion. If we'd been promoted, this wouldn't be happening. But we weren't, so it's totally predictable really. Just like with Val. We're in this horrible situation now, where if the manager does well but we narrowly miss out on promotion, they're likely to leave. If they don't, they're likely to be sacked. Either route takes us back to square one.

We need a manager that is neither good enough to get us promoted or bad enough to get us relegated.

    What's Mel Machin doing?

I'd stick some points in. A siding and a good buffer stop. That would stop those pesky MGR's.

Why what’s happening? Seriously, apart from a rumour, or have I missed something.

Well he plays with wing backs so it's a start. I think he's had his day though. I think duffs replacement is already at the club.

Someone who lives localish could be one stipulation. Stunned at some people's commutes, must be a right drag.

Need to stop agreeing to deals with release clauses or make them substantial we could then couple the deal & incentivise the deal with loyalty payments for each season so the head coach is still rewarded I’m sure there are plenty of coaches who would agree on this basis as don’t forget when they come it’s highly likely we are the biggest club to have offered them a deal. We can’t keep changing head coaches every season.

This has been my view for a while. The counter argument is that coaches won’t come if that clause is in the contract. But if someone is insisting on a release clause being effective after only 1 season then we don’t want them.

Think the 1 season thing is the pertinent point, it should be in place from at least 2 years.
Aside of the turmoil issue changing coaches yearly causes, how can the club move forward if they are constantly trying to bed new people (sometimes new methods) in and potentially buying players that the coach has had a hand in.

If it’s £2 million as rumoured, would have thought that’s quite significant for a low league coach with limited experience.
Think leythtyke point is the way forward.

It's a tricky one. When you combine Struber, Val and Duff, we will have made a decent wedge. What we don't know is how much of that was offset by the Schopp/Asbaghi disasters. On balance, I think I would prefer 12 month rolling contracts. I accept this means our better managers leave for nothing, but also it doesn't cost us anything to offload the ones who don't do the business. Either way we seem to be on a one-season cadence, so a 12-month rolling contract probably makes sense. However, this may seriously limit our scope, and I imagine the 'better' managers generally won't be interested if that's all we're offering. So we're probably in this situation where a longer deal with clauses is the only way we can realistically attract the targets we're going after.

I said it at the time when Duff signed. Length of contract means nothing. The only thing a contract guarantees, is that the manager gets paid.

A ‘3 year deal’ will have a 12 month notice period in it, so the exposure to the club will be 12 months.

which is the same exposure as a 12 month rolling contract
