    As us?
And why does it always happen after the season ticket hype.

I would expect most clubs with a successful manager. Even Pep. Hunted by most of the European big guns. Doesn't mean they'll leave. Just part of the game. Same as with players.

Watford for one. It's always going to happen after the season ticket hype seen as STs are on sale before the end of the season.

Pretty much every club is a stepping stone. But I can’t think of any other club that has such a struggle to keep a coach beyond the very first bit of success. Most clubs at least get a second season.

It's the knock on effect, if Duff leaves ,we'll probably do to another club what Swansea have done to us ,I'm just hoping it doesn't because there is something special about Duff, but if it does I'll thank him and wish him well

It’s probably what makes us so attractive to upcoming managers and players. They know we don’t and can’t put up a fight to keep them so they move onto better things.

I’d imagine we use it as a selling point. Didn’t the new defender we just signed referenced us a stepping stone too or have I made this up?

That said, as a fan, it’s not enjoyable. It’s season after season, and probably a major factor, along with the previous owners as to why I’ve lost a bit of love for the club and only pick and choose my games now. It has and always will be my club, but it is hard to get attached to the team like we used to when it breaks up so easy.

However, as things stand, he and the team are still here. So let’s hope this season is a turning point and it isn’t ripped to shreds again.

There are just 18 managers in the football league who have completed 2 seasons in their current post.

More than half of the managers in the football league have been in post for less than 12 months.

Started working this out last night before I fell asleep. Also 15 Premier League managers sacked in one season. You can’t blame managers for taking the money wherever they can.

That's a very telling stat. Bit of a vicious cycle innit. Fans saying 'if you're not loyal, neither am I'; managers saying 'you'll want me out as soon as things turn, so I'm looking after myself'.

What's Jim Illey doing these days; couldn't get rid of him?

Every year? After literally every good season? Can't think of a single club that consistently loses coaches after such a minimal period of success.

Luton kept Jones for 2+ years twice. Blackpool kept Critchely for 2 years. Evett has taken Bolton from League 2 to League 1 play offs and just signed a new contract. Cheltenham kept Duff for a second season. Never happens at Barnsley.

Jim Iley is much maligned and unfairly so IMHO. He left the club in a better place than he found it and laid the foundations for Allan Clarke to build on.
Not too dissimilar to Duff if he leaves us now.

Quite telling that we've had more managers in the last 7 years than we had for our first 70 years. There'll never be another Arthur Fairclough, Jimmy Seed or Johnny Steele.
