Hope we haven’t wasted the last 3 days twiddling our thumbs. We should be look at his replacements now already too.
Don't have to name the club, just say that they've accepted an approach (or not) from 'a club'. And this isn't just a 'can't make a statement on every rumour' situation. This is a story that has been picked up by both local and national media, it is odd that there has not been a single word from the club.
Giddings mentioned being approached but this is the first report I've seen where it's been confirmed he's decided to speak to them.
You say decided to speak to them, but it says they've had 'informal' talks with him. That to me means they've not even sat down with him yet. They've probably offered him an interview. That doesn't confirm that a compensation agreement has been reached, that doesn't day Duff has agreed to anything, or even had a formal discussion with them. It also leaves the door open for Swansea to consider someone else. Duff isn't even the favourite in the betting. Considering on Sunday night everyone was convinced it was a done deal, it appears from that article they're still at preliminary discussion stages. Further proof that all of these people 'in the know' on twitter know absolutely nothing.
To Quote from the Guardian "Swansea are hopeful of appointing Barnsley’s Michael Duff as their next manager, with Russell Martin’s protracted exit to Southampton set to be rubber-stamped in the next 48 hours. Swansea have held informal talks with Duff in recent days and are confident of striking a deal" Now taking it as being factually accurate - which I admit is a stretch, that doesnt sound like the done deal that some are saying. Of course there could be a deal already done and it will be announced in a couple of days, or once talks get serious Duff may well decide to stay put , or Swansea may not want to pay compensation. How many times has a manager been expected to be announced only for it not to happen Pessimistically I am resigned to him going but still clinging to the straw that this isnt as done as some say it is
It all depends upon the circumstances for me. I won’t be particularly happy if he’s spoken to them, but decided to stay, because it shows that he’s open to leave as soon as the right offer comes in. But if he has agreed to go, but it falls through for whatever reason I’d get shut of him now and get a replacement in ASAP, because it shows he wants away, so when the sackings start in September he’ll be off. And there’s a ready made replacement 10 miles down the road, so we should be speaking with him now.
I suspect the informal talks were simply to get the nod, before they go ahead and offer the compo to Barnsley. Hope I'm wrong but reckon the informal talks were simply tapping up.
I'm hopeful of winning the lottery this week, I've had informal discussions with the local Ferrari dealership and I'm confident that this is the week!!
The reaction from half this board to just rumours suggests that a majority of Barnsley fans aren't "big enough and old enough to deal with it"!
