I'm pretty sure the Millwall manager said they had an optional fee/to buy but didn't think they would take it up

So we're left with no goalkeeper then!?

Hopefully we sign Isted & there is the other lad we signed in january but even if Isted does not sign I feel sure another keeper can come on loan or permanent with no problem.

There is a release clause and there will be a figure. No club in their right mind will pay more. Only try getting him for less. (And there will be a sell on clause I would imagine.)

Aye, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt mate before I went in headfirst about transfer fees for players we've not even sold.

I don't think anyone said he wasn't good enough for league one. Some are talking about him walking into our center midfield which I've seen nothing of him in center midfield in a red shirt to suggest he could. Center midfield was our strongest position last season. Is he going to get more assists and goals than Phillips? No. Is he better than connell? No.
If he goes to Watford I expect him to play wing back where he looked best for us.

How does anyone know that Connell is better than Styles ? We all like Connell & we can all see his potential & we all hope he continues to progress but is he has had one season in the third division with us whilst Styles is an international & an experienced championship player but still very young & will also continue to develop but once again you are naming division one players & stating they are better than him , it really puzzles me why .

But aren't you doing the exact same thing on the isted thread your slating me for? Claiming isted is far better as you say based on what you have seen in half a season of league one football. When Collins was a key part in us reaching the play off semis under val and then kept the score from been embarrassing the season we were relegated.
The best games I saw Styles play in a barnsley shirt was wing back under val. If we got chance to reply Wednesday tomorrow and we were allowed Styles he wouldn't get in that center midfield imo.

Agree about Collins but still think Styles would be a major player, he would equal Phillips output in my opinion and offer more without the ball

Have to disagree Phillips reminds me of redfearn with his shooting from range also contributed with the most assists for us last season I don't think Styles don't think Styles would be close to those numbers. But we won't know as val will most likely sign him up if he pays the release clause.

I have not slated you on any post , I might disagree with you but I have not as you say slated you, however if you think that Styles a current international a proven championship player cannot get in a third division side then you and I have totally different ideas on football & players , I will see how many championship clubs come queuing up for the signature of Philips this summer for example then I will review my thoughts when that happens .

Like I said I think our strongest point of our squad is midfield and when styles played for us his best times were always wing back. I saw him have some awful games in center midfield. How many are queuing up to sign styles? From what I gather Millwall don't want to pay what we want but val has now come in wanting him.

Basically you are saying that we have a championship ? international class player on our books who would not get in a third division side , ok I bow to your supreme knowledge of all things football , it is pointless discussing it with you , next thing you will be telling me that Victor is a top class striker !!

I'm saying imo unless he's improved on last seasons showings in center midfield I wouldn't be dropping kane connell or Phillips for him, that's MY opinion. You're entitled to disagree, we all get it wrong from time to time. like when people said if toneys worth that what's cauley worth...

For what its worth I would keep Styles if possible and see if the current management can fit him in to the system and develop him further. He's still worth the punt imo.

Yeah, I guessed it would be in that region what with him signing such a long contract last summer. I wonder whether Gary Rowett is just trying to get a cut price deal, with him saying the clause is too high for them.

Do we think anyone's going to part with that for him?

Probably not, so we get to play him next year. We must have got the clause right because it’s a value that means no one wants to offer it…
These release clauses are good, aren’t they?
