Duff not gone yet but if as expected he does then we shouldn’t look at Devaney…..no track record and didn’t exactly get results with under 21s. He was kept on because club remained loyal to him and obviously the link between him and Duff when playing together. Its Duff that got these lads playing not Devaney
Have to disagree here, as Disco took his team to our end of season cup final barely a year ago & the average age of his team must have been over 40. If not for his player- manager injury, pretty sure he'd have lifted the trophy! Top gaffer
A lot of the comments on here regarding managers leaving for other clubs seem a bit rich considering Barnsley take managers from other clubs all the time. We took Duff from Cheltenham! And on that note... If you meet someone and they're with someone else and they leave that someone else for you, don't be surprised if they later meet someone new and you're the someone else they're now leaving.
Were that actually true, it's quite remarkable absolutely no one claimed it to be the case after Stendel was first appointed in the Summer of 2018. However, what we got was the group of players were all a set of losers, that we would actually be involved in another relegation battle, along with we needed an experienced English coach with Division 1 experience as no foreign coach would win promotion.
The players at the start of that season were not the same players that finished, if anything I think Stendel reinvigorated them and should take alot of credit on how their respective careers took off.
I think the 2016 team was better - Mawson, Hourihane, Brownhill all went on to play in the Prem. Adam Davies probably will next season, mind you so will Woodrow. Not forgetting Hammill and Winnall. Even Ivan Toney struggled to get in that team.
I can't see what all fuss is about. Stendel, Ritchie, Heckingbottom, Johnson. All good at this level. Duff same. There's one key denominator here. Barnsley F.C's standing at League 1 level. I'll be sad to see Duff go but I was sad to see Hourihane, Scowen, Mawson, Pinnock, Watkins and Winnall go etc. No qualms from me. We'll replace Duff as we will Collins, Isted, Anderson, Williams, Connell and whoever else decides to leave. Reason being our budget makes us bigger at this level. That was only silver lining or chink of light after losing to Wednesday for me. At least we're comfortable at this level. ( Apologies for saying we. Figure of speech).
I thought we'd really struggle that season. Was proved wrong massively. I wasn't the only one but maybe the only one to still admit it. Didn't think we'd do much this year either. But to prove I'm not always wrong, I had total faith in the Johnson/Heckingbottom team and it felt like I was a lone voice during the long losing streak under Johnson when I consistently argued we should keep him.
Clinging on to hope that deafening silence from Oakwell means there will be a seamless transition from announcing Duff’s departure to announcing his successor with at least a 2 hour window between the two! What I’m expecting is the announcement of Duffs departure & the usual 3-4 week wait for Khaled to piss about sorting out his successor & ending up with 8th choice. All the while Connell follows Duff to Swansea, Anderson joins Luton, Williams leaves, Isted signs for Hull.
Always thought Nathan Jones football was very route one. Probably why he's failed at everywhere else except Luton.
This just needs to be over, done with and announced now… it’s tiring now. When a new manager does get announced just be honest and don’t ******** about a project, long-haul etc. just say you’re here for the here and now. Duff has well and truly ****** us over, absolute bell-end style.
