Many different things could have gone wrong that may mean they are already lost. But yes if they are still alive would be harrowing in the extreme.

I'm sorry, but given the significant safety concerns that were raised about this sub and the fact this bloody thing was controlled by an xbox controller then you have to question why these people even went on it.
Of course I hope they are all found safely but as the hours pass by it's not looking good.

 

Space tourists will be next. Ticket to the moon for $1 million (small print: no guarantees re arrival or return).

 

Games controllers are actually quite robust and basically ready made for the job we hours of testing ect. Though if reports of no back up and wireless are true then that's madness. I also agree the rest of what I have read on the build of the Sub is very worrying.

 

Having once qualified as a BSAC Open water recreational diver I am well aware of the hostile environment and dangers even at 40 or 50 metres that exist thank you very never mind at more than two miles down. You don't just strap on the tanks, fins, mask, stab jacket and DV and jump in. There is a lot of physics and maths involved and even more so with 'technical diving' involving mixed gases that enable divers to go beyond 50 metre depth.

IMO the people who really underestimated the dangers are the builders and operators of that submersible.

As regards currents... S&R will have charts and records of the current at the time of launch and the subsequent period. Search areas and patterns on surface undertaken by aircraft / surface vessels will have taken that into account Currents speed and direction do vary at different depths but we are likely talking no more than 20-25cm/s which equates to around .66 mph. It is highly unlikely the craft has been drifiting underwater for the entire duration so the distance covered is 16 mile per day. The commander is quoted as saying it is either marooned on the seabed or had surfaced (the latter looking less likely by the hour).

The internet is indeed a valuable resource but you do need to know where to look to get the correct information (and know what you are looking for!!)

Think it's pathetic the media coverage this is getting just because they've got a bit of money. Hundreds of people die every day crossing the channel thanks to people like Cruella Braverman and nobody bats and eye, 5 rich fuckers with more money than sense go missing due to a pointless and self aggrandising voyage and there's a global rescue mission.

Obviously I hope they're found (however unlikely that looks right now) but the media coverage is comparison to other stuff is insanity.

 

You're right, I suppose you can apply that to media coverage in general on so many different issues and events.

 

Not sure I agree I think its got people interested because of the timescale they have to find them and the depth in the Atlantic there at(more people have been the the moon than that deep)

And alot of people are crossing the Channel (which is illegal for a start) and getting here okay that's why a hotel south of wakefield is upping its intake and another down the road is full to the brim with grown men. But that's another story.

Hope these people are found regardless of wealth but I'm not holding out much hope.
