It makes absolutely no sense to stay quiet, nothing good can come from it, so there has to be a reason and a good one, our board and CEO aren’t daft people. A simple statement released last week along the lines of: “Swansea have made an approach, there’s a release clause so nothing we can do to stop it, it’s duffs choice and while we hope he stays we are preparing ourselves and have already started the process of looking for a new..” Reassurance to the fan base the club are being proactive (which I’m sure the club are anyway) and damage control for our imagine explaining the release clause and that it’s his choice not ours. All makes good business sense. But they haven’t which got me thinking to why: Privacy. Duff is an employee, can an employer release personal information into the press that an employee has applied for a job? Is it their news to give. He’s not handed in his resignation, it’s just an interview until he official says I’m going What if Duff turned them down or the bloke never went to Southampton, announcing Duff is going (even though it’s public knowledge) could cause issues should Duff stay. Although I’d say we are way beyond this point by now. Again if we announce it and he stays can he claim damages against the club for any damage done to his image (and again his privacy)? Does anyone work in HR or is anyone an employer who knows about this stuff? JAQ posted a tweet yesterday saying “Hey @BarnsleyFC I know you are waiting and wanting to know what’s happening at Oakwell right now - as soon as we can update you properly we will - have a great night xo” She didn’t mention Duff by name or what was happening by title, it was I think a carefully written message to try and offer reassurance but at the same time having her hands tied. Can we avoid this in future, can future manager contracts, if they have to have a release clause, could they include some terms around what can be made public and when without getting ourselves into any legal trouble?
I am no expert in law or HR policies etc. But I would have thought they could post something. For context, this is what Cheltenham posted last year when we got Duff.
The deafening silence says it all. We all know what is happening. The club won't burn any bridges until it is cut & dried. Sensible move. No doubt replacements are already being lined up, but no need for a statement until business is done. Won't be long now though. I'm listening to some afro-cuban salsa & drinking a mojito.
Maybe they are waiting to announce his replacement at the same time …. Or maybe they are just not very good at their jobs
Julie Anne felt the need to put the above post out on twitter. Have to say that the club could have at least put something out, it could easily have said "Swansea City FC have approached Barnsley FC in regards to our head coach Michael Duff. Following initial discussions Swansea have activated a release clause in MD's contract and he has subsequently indicated his desire to speak with Swansea about their head coaching position. We will update supporters further following the conclusion of those discussions".
There could be any number of reasons why the move hasn't been confirmed, however I think the fans should absolutely expect to have been told, as soon as Swansea approached us and were given permission to speak with him. BFC's loyalty isn't to Michael Duff, or any other manager for that matter. Their loyalty is to us. It's going to be interesting to hear from Khaled why there haven't been any comms.
This - See my post above. Didn't need to say a lot but they could have updated supporters to stop the speculation.
Would you rather they rush to satisfy folk. or try to get the best available. ? Lots were underwhelmed last season. When we got Duff in. Soon changing their minds. A few days afore players are back. More for some of em. I'd rather they get it right rather than panic.
Good digital exposure for the club getting 25 million hits on their socials in a week. But surely they know 20 million of those hits are me clicking refresh every 5 seconds. I'm thinking the silence is down to all staff being tasked with finding good news - any news - for Khaled to announce to temper our shock and surprise at the Duff news.
Khaled knew this was happening the day after Wembley........he's gonna announce Big Mick.......knows how to read a room does Khaled
That doesn’t mention a release clause, they mention giving permission which BFC don’t need to do if I understand it right, the release clause means he can talk to others freely. I might be wrong. it’s the sort of statement we needed
Relate clause? Talk to tigers? Is this some kind of code? Have you bumped into Disco in a shop and he's revealed Pep wants to complete football by taking Barnsley to the League 1 title?
Hooky,I get what you mean and yes nobody wants a knee jerk reaction but they have got history of taking ages to appointment somebody. And again the main transfer targets will get snapped up.
Swansea first dialogue with there supporters was yesturday to which the chairman appologised but he wasn't able to say anything earlier.
