Stendl apparantly went behind their backs. Must have been tapped.

Hasn’t this been exposed as a lie spread by the snake Murray?

Which is fine, as long as you accept we simply won't be able to attract certain managers by refusing to include exit clauses. I imagine plenty would then criticise the Club, when we find ourselves fishing in non-league for managers.

Wish him well. Football is full of mercenaries. Duff is no different. I'm more qualified to know about money grabbing mercenaries. I lived with one for 13 years.

All in the past. I hope we get Darren Moore then we'll be able to sing Wonderwall at home games. And after all we've got Darren Moore.

As for Duff. How many special people change?

Id like the club to do the same, but we can’t expect to land our number 1 2 or 3 target if clauses are commonly expected and we refuse to entertain them. I keep reading people saying sign Moore or Wilder, I doubt we could get them but if we did there’s not a cat in hells chance you hire managers with their CVs and they agree to come for 3 whole seasons without a way out, we’d have to be targeting someone who’s a bit desperate to get the job and willing to go without one, someone lower down the food chain who sees us as a big club. I’d have thought Duff coming from Cheltenham was a big enough step up but apparently not

We could do with some more information on these clauses and how common they are, prior to now I thought they were rare but the more I’ve read it seems everyone has them, Swansea’s fella had one for instance.

Wasnt he put on gardening leave because of it. Not sure if it was a lie but i got the impression more that Murray reported him for it.

Exactly what I’m thinking, the club can’t win either way.

Quite happy for you to point out the facts as you know em.
Only posted what was said at the time.

"Early in the season Daniel Stendel entered into negotiations with a rival Sky Bet Championship club, to take over their managerial post and recruited other members of contracted Barnsley Football Club staff to follow him. Never once did Mr. Stendel seek approval or alert members of the club's board to these discussions. Only when approached, by the board, was there any sign of acknowledgement.

"This was a clear violation of Mr. Stendel's contract and created additional unnecessary ‎distractions for our club which was recently promoted to the Sky Bet Championship. This event, coupled with numerous other issues, led to removal of Mr. Stendel as Head Coach. Out of respect for his contributions to the tremendous 2018/2019 season, we wanted to settle this matter privately and amicably out of the eye of the public.

The bit about the release clause really depends on the conversation of how we are selling the club.
If we talk about being a stepping stone then having the clause is to be expected as we are basically telling them we are expecting them to leave.

When Danny Wilson went to Wednesday, he wanted my old man to go. Wednesday offered to double his wages.

John Dennis asked him to stay and had an improved contract with a job for life.

He was sacked by Spackman 18 months later.

    Football is a fickle game.

He failed and should have been sacked. Be thankful we got some compo and move on.

but the club tried to keep him. agree re his lack of commitment but it shouldn't be ignored that the Club did the right thing. in essence we've all been duped by a guy who felt no real connection with us but was happy to talk up his long term commitment to us.
    Fraud.

I begged him not to go to Hillsborough, absolutely begged him.

I don’t know whether 21 year old me had any influence at all, but it goes to show that there’s no guarantees in football.

Now he’s no longer with us, it does still get to me that I tried to emotionally make him choose BFC, when the end result went the other way.

That’s why now I’m ambivalent about stuff like this. Life is a journey of sliding doors moments, and money talks, and good decisions turn into bad ones and vice versa.

I’ve done it myself. Take emotion out of it.

But then again I don’t profess long term journeys and in it for the long haul.

I think I'd rather he took one or two of them than certain players.
