The next appointment won't be Devaney. 9000 season tickets shifted is a lot for a League 1 club. I know there's a lot in favour of Devaney but there's a lot aren't either. If Devaney is best candidate all well and good but if they get this one wrong or don't get in someone the fans can warm to. It'll set em' back more than just a few bad results.

Should have gave it him last year then . And the years b4. Or were Duff/Val/Struhber/Stendl/Schopp et al. all the cheaper option. Not one of em promoted from backroom staff.
    And a stain on Devaney.
"Here Martin. We are giving you the job on the fact you are the cheapest available. Not on the merit of your interview."

So what do we actually know.. not alot but here goes
Disco is odds on with the two bookies with exactly the same odds all way down. Non of the odds have moved for two days except Brian Barry-Murphy slightly, coincidentally after being mentioned on here. The betting is as dead as a dodo..flat.
The only two snippets of news. One from one of thee most detested journos on here, Alan Nixon. It was him and only him that said he thought Barnsley could appoint from within and give it to Disco, hence favourite
And one of the radio Sheffield guys suggests that Darren Moore would be open to talks.hence second favourite.
And thats about the size of it. All the rest is bbs and Twitter speculation. Gabriel Sutton who some on here value his opinion.. just said exactly the same as Nixon a couple of hours later than him.. so make of that what you will.
I actually don't think we as fans are anywhere nearer knowing anything than we knew a week ago.
I say the club are quitely going about the business looking for the best man for the job.
Didn't Duff say he spoke to Neerav on three occasions not including the interview. The club will be asking questions to perspective coaches and the candidates will also be asking thiers..
For me be another week yet at least until we see any white smoke.
Little more patience and trust needed guys n gals..

We very rarely actually go for the 'cheap option' though, so why would this time be any different.

They can't get this one wrong. There's a lot of fans want promotion this season. A lot of faith is being shown. More so than at any other time I can remember. Last season United so many people.

If it’s at least a week until we set on a new head coach they’ll have little more than 3 weeks to work with the players before the season begins and we’ll be miles behind everyone else in terms of recruitment.
Setting ourselves up at a disadvantage going into a new season yet again, so frustrating when we should be busting a gut after the disappointment of Wembley.
Yes, these things can take a bit of time but we always seem to move slower than most.

Nowt we can do about that Micky.. time is not on our side. But if the club was going go for quick appointment especially from within they would have been in by now. Or at least almost and news would have broke with a name in all networks.
Nar Khalid and the board are still at it, be doing their due diligence to get it right.. or as right as you can with any appointment.
We live in a media age where there are no secrets. Or not for long.

May I just add.. it's a long season so a couple of weeks in pre-season is near nor there in the crux of things. As long as the player's are getting fit..But it will seem like hell of a long season if we get the appointment wrong.
Give em time to get it right.

Out of those 5 managers Devaney was only assistant to Michael Duff which is why people are suggesting him for continuity purposes.
Not sure who were the assistant managers for the rest of them, wasn't one of em Laumann and another Murray, who both had caretaker roles?
Anyway, that's probably why they didn't ask him last year - he hadn't had the season's experience he gleaned from Duff.

EDIT: Apologies HF, I should have read the post you were replying to first. I scrolled up from the last post and replied instead of scrolling down from the beginning. Got the context all wrong.

Not sure how true this is but a pal in Swansea is saying Duff is looking to bring Paterson and Devaney. Possibly an analyst and a physio/sports scientist too. Could be rubbish but there's also something going round that Nicky Eaden took our training. Also could be false but who knows at the moment.

Wouldn't surprise me. Val took most of the staff with him to West Brom so its not like it hasn't happened before.
Be surprised if Devaney took up the offer, he's been here a long time and his kids are settled in Barnsley. Not like it's a 2 hour drive away.

The poison chalice awaits any Barnsley legend.... whoever picks up the mantle is on to a hiding to nothing ....lose a few to start with or have a poor season and the knifes will be out in no time....
Why lift you head above the parapet if like Disco you've got a good job like he has

Not a problem no apology needed mate we've all done it. I was more referring to the fact it was said that he would be the cheapest option rather than on merit. Which I hope the board make the right decision for the club. Doesn't allus work mind, and I choose to not give an opinion since I thought Spackman would be the bees knees lol. Couldn't have been more wrong.

It will be hard for devaney the clubs on a downer just lost the best head coach since I can remember. Just lost a play off final and our center half to Luton. Not like when hecky took over a 8 game winning run and in the jpt final. Its going to take some doing getting team spirit back.
