Rugby Union springs to mind as well (not so sure about League). Or maybe there's even a sport a little closer to home that it would be worth having a closer look at...
Ironic that the organisation pushing this story is the BBC!! The most corrupt, vile organisation in the UK … Maybe they should look internally first before pointing accusation's!
It's also ironic that the ECB have today recommended Yorkshire are fined £500,000 plus multiple serious points deductions, yet they themselves have been held massively accountable in the report today and they've had to unreservedly apologise. Perhaps they ought to fine themselves too! Yes, Yorkshire have had serious issues, but the irony of the ECB recommending this today. The other thing that narks me off about suggesting points deductions for Yorkshire, is, how is it right that a new set of players, a new board, and the fans are punished with a mighty points deduction in all competitions (if it happens), when the club are making a lot of positive strides, have rooted out the supposed bad eggs and are trying to move forward. It seems to me like a lot of innocent parties are being (potentially) punished for the actions of people long gone from the club. Doesn't seem right. Plus the fact that these findings are months ago now, and they could have announced them before the season. The fact that the points deductions likely won't mean anything anyway, as we're dross this season, isn't the point really. Perhaps all counties need to be investigated like Yorkshire have been...
Yep golf’s got a long way to go but it has changed from where it was a few years ago .There are some clubs though that are still archaic
Tennis, Golf, Rugby Union, Horse racing, Show jumping, Swimming, Motor Sports,Polo, Fencing, Cycling, Darts, Dominoes, Nipsy, the Eton Wall game…. The purge has well and truly begun and all sports must be cathartically cleansed by appointees of the industry that is Diversity who, for a tidy sum, will take unchallenged testimony and accounts, assume their truth and validity before parcelling it all up as yet another shock horror scandal which will see a few heads roll, the odd pound of flesh taken, suits at the top shuffling uncomfortably as they recite the new mantra, before the storm passes and the focus falls upon the next sport to be cleansed. ‘Tis just the way of the modern world.
No. Sexism and racism exists in all societies (not least in societies where it's perhaps least reported, or the western masses wouldn't expect it because of underreporting in the media), but not everyone in society is sexist and racist, that would be ludicrous. If sexism means that these sports were predominantly played by men since their inception, then I disagree they are sexist. As for racism, the sport of cricket, commendably, has been the frontrunner as far as I can see in embracing minoroties into the sport in the past decades, particularly those from Indian, Sri Lankan and Pakistani backgrounds (obviously there will be the odd exception - see above: racism exists in society, but not all society is racist). Compare how many Asian players there are in cricket to football, for example. Yes there will be some people running the show who no doubt have their prejudices, but are they representative of the whole? No. These terms get bandied about, best to proceed with caution and an open mind.
My take on it is it will never be eradicated. Just those daft enough to do it will get caught and punished. The deeper problem is those that have been pushed underground. These are the people that are institutionally racist and sexist who run the show.
Yorkshire we're guilty and admitted it. Have they done enough? I don't think so, there was a lot of whitewash (no pun intended) being splashed around and a lot of window dressing. A once great and proud club being, quite rightly, hung out to dry. Attitudes have been dreadful ever since the "born in Yorkshire to play for Yorkshire" doctrine, that many reading this will embrace. There is an arrant Yorkshire superiority that we've all indulged in and it's not all tongue in cheek. What has really changed? Having said all that, the report on the MCC and the England and Wales Cricket Board is also extremely damning and the more the establishment in the game are seen to punish Yorkshire CCC the less the spotlight is on their own racist, elitist, class ridden organisation. When Eton and Harrow and Oxford and Cambridge can command days at Lords, while most state schools don't even have a pitch to play on the controllers of the game don't have to look far to see the unfairness of opportunity in the system. I have enjoyed watching cricket all my life, but I find Headingly to be very uncomfortable these days and my love of the game is not the same. I don't really care what they do with it, it is more of a nonentity played by posh boys than ever.
QUOTE="fired, post: 3133661, member: 7031"]Mmm Not really a shock. where next? Golf?[/QUOTE] Someone posted on twitter a picture of the Pakistani cricket team.. not very diverse
Not a good comparison given that Asian Countries such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc have cricket by far and away their no1 sport and are fanatical beyond belief. You need to have figures around participation in both sports at all levels to even begin an attempt to compare fairly.
Western society certainly is. The Empire was built on racism and classism and we exported it around big chunks of the world. Some societies were less racist or sexist - for example the Native Americans valued women until we negotiated with them and forced them to ignore the views of their womenfolk.
The flip side is there has never been a better time to be black or a Women in UK history but clearly so much further to go. It's a hard balance to strike equality of opportunity and accepting that it will by very nature not give equality of outcome.
I'd put the Tory party afore them. And the organisation pushing it to try clean up their act is the incompetent cricket board who have been aware of allegations for years. Yorkshire are just the 1st. All media outlets are publishing it or dont they count. Its news (should that be held back) . ITV have been complicit in sexism at the top level of the organisation as more stories emerge. And of all media outlets the BBC is not at the top. Daily mail. Would be closer. An owner who oversees the most vile media outlets.
It’s an interesting one , I would be interested to see if their is an ‘area’ bias , for instance when I played in the Barnsley area I never experienced elitism but the club I played for in Harrogate the captains, committees etc were very much ‘poshy’ money led.I would imagine in the Home Counties etc this is amplified. I never experienced any racism at all (during the games I did tend to dislike the West Indians purely because usually because they were either trying to knock my block off when I was batting or when bowling likely to crack any loose ball to the boundary!) Sexism never came into it either and certainly in North ayorks the ladies teams seemed to all prosper.
