Jalo highly highly thought of, though I wonder if another year at that level might suit him best. It's a balance but we can get it right when we try.
This is just a more embellished version of the "they don't want to go up" stories that did the rounds every season when I started watching us 30 odd years ago.
Not sure whether this is serious or not but I’ve called this years ago. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if a brand took us over.
I'd like to call it my wild guess. But who knows? I considered the scenario the day JAQ walked in as the bold bright front-piece.
Are we going to get any kind of statement from Barnsley fc explaining what stage we are at? Exactly the same thing is happening after we got knocked out of the championship play offs bugger all.
When I read/hear a rumour the first thing I try to establish is where the information has come from. In this case, the majority of it is from a meeting between Duff and the board/Khaled. So either the OP's mate was in that meeting or someone in that meeting has told him (or someone he knows) exactly what was discussed. As with all rumours where a private meeting between professionals is the ultimate source, it is my opinion there is very little credibility. What this actually sounds like is a rehash of the interview Khaled gave to a Swedish journalist, with many of the subjects raised taken to the extreme and turned into a negative. It's as though someone read that interview, probably on this BBS, embellished it somewhat, added plenty of negative spin, told the OP's mate, who told the OP, who wrote it on here. Full circle with the added spice of personal interpretation through the many links in a Chinese whispers stylee.
I know very little mate, I believe @Archerfield is the accounts expert so I go off what he and a few others post. A few things to note (I'm sure people will correct me if I'm wrong!): Relegation in 2021/2022 would have set the club back £6m - £7m. Oulare and Iseka were signed on ridiculous contracts, circa £6-£7k per week each over 3 or 4 years (Conman was responsible for those two signings). We had a shortfall in the 2021/22 accounts that carried through last season. The owners had to put in circa £6m last season to keep the club going. Player sales - Unfortunately in most cases we don't appear to maximise the profit on player sales - This is difficult to quantify though because ultimately a player is only worth what an opposition club is willing to pay, however, I do think that BFC have a reputation as a soft touch and other club's know that we won't drive a hard bargain - Carlton Morris being a prime example with Luton recently taking the piss out of us by saying they can't believe how little they paid for him. Reduced match day revenue. As noted above, some people seem to think we're a well run club, however when our expenses are greater than our revenue then that simply isn't the case and we're running at a loss. Something has to change. We've just received £500k for Duff, if the rumors are true then Mads is going to Luton for £3m. We've managed to offload Oulare and get him off the wage bill. I would also expect Styles to be sold and possibly Jordan Williams too. The clubs has to be re-aligned financially because the owners will not want another season where they have to throw £5m at it to keep us going.
In terms of the manager, I think it will be an outside of the box appointment. I wouldn’t have minded Paterson getting the job to allow some sort of momentum but can’t see the new appointment being on the bookies list. A young coach most probably. Got a weird feeling Lincoln manager might be on the list. Tactically did us three times last season and overachieved. Or Mark Hudson.
The "they don't want to go up" stories were around 60 years ago too, and 75 years ago, according to my late father.
It's an interesting idea- though I would be a bit perturbed as to where it would go? Presume if you plough money into a club to make it into a Europe side level would you not choose something with say a more modern stadia, a larger core fanbase (think 30k not 12k). Not sure any English clubs fit the bill though- definitely space for another big London club but we are a bit tight here, United and City just over the hills, two clubs in Sheffield that think they are massive, Leeds. As well as donny, Rotherham etc.
Can the ambition of "consolidating" in a division from which we were within a hair's breadth of being promoted from really be true? That seems a bit hard to believe.
A few things 1. We're still feeling the pinch from Conway and Lee. Worst owners I've ever seen at the club. The iseka and oulare signings were just plain stupidly. 2.if your running the club as a business you need to maximise your profits and get top dollar for players. Again the Conway and Lee era failed at that and Morris for 1.3 million was a joke. 3. 9k season tickets isn't bad but I suspect we would have sold more if duff had stayed and we built on what we did last season instead looks like it could be a long season.
I've heard the term before. Apparently we lost on purpose or allegedly did years ago? Can anyone clarify?
There’s definitely some ******** in there. The board 1000% don’t insist on which players play. The long conversation that Duff had that decided where he ended up was based soley on the number of zeros on his pay check. Its all about the money. He was always going to the first champ club that came knocking with more cash. The 2 clubs thing - theres more BS for you. We’ll be in a better position financially this season that last, once the players that are going to leave do so. Add to that the compensation for the coaches that have left) and the idea that money is tighter is unlikely to be true. Khaleds statement has nothing to do with the club being sold is my understanding. Duff doesnt get money to spend. We all know how recruitment works at Barnsley. So yeah, quite a lot of BS in all that Id say.
What I’m struggling to reconcile is that in that interview Khalid said we had the 12th highest wage bill in league one. We had the 7th highest average attendance,I can’t find 11 teams with higher wage bills unless I’m missing something, maybe 8 or 9.
