Later today I'm off to a 100th birthday party in Hamburg, Germany. My wife's aunt Ellie was born on this day in 1923, still lives on her own and looks after herself. She has a cleaner, but doesn't need any carers, does her own shopping and cooks her own meals. Her secret? A bottle of red wine per day. Has anyone else ever been to a 100th party?
I once drank three bottles of Wolf Blass back to back. I felt ill the whole day after to the point I thought I was dying.
I think she rations it skilfully, spreading it out over the entire day to avoid getting in a tangle. I'll watch her carefully this aft
My nana's mum lived to be 108, born in 1896 and died 2004, so lived in three different centuries! I don't remember her 100th, but I remember the last couple of birthdays (107/108). She had some incredible stories to tell, I bet your wife's aunt is the same!
Great age! Aunt Ellie lived for many years near the Reeperbahn, the red light district in Hamburg. She really does have some incredible stories to tell!
I guess she's had years of practice. Hopefully I'll have also mastered that skill by the time I'm 100. I'm currently 45 and it's something I still struggle with!
Yes. My Step Grandma, who I believe was once a Headteacher at your Primary School. Now 103 and still going strong. She was driving til she was 98(!) We had to advise her that itv wasn't really a good idea anymore . Lived independently at home until she was 100. Visited her yesterday and she still knows so much stuff. Not sure what her secret is. She likes a sherry or a whisky.
A bottle of red everyday, I bet there's a few gaps in there too. Fair play to her ,wish her a happy birthday from the bbs x
One of our neighbours invited us to a meal for her 100th - there was us , her family and friends and a few neighbours. All in all around 30 people - we hadn't realised she had paid for everything before we got there. Lovely gesture but did feel awkward a little
Yea my grandma in Leeds about 5 years ago, she had dementia for last 10 years of her life but was a great laugh before 90. She received the card/ telegram from the queen and the do was in her sheltered accommodation in Armley. Unfortunatley she passed the next year.
