Have they? Their owners have pumped in a truckload of money over the years, and while they've sold players, they've also bought players in on massive wages to replace them.

As I understand it, Matthew Benham has invested around £105M into Brentford. So far their Premier League prize money has earned them:

    2021-22 £119.9M
    2022-23 £131.5M

They start next season in the Premier League for a third time, and would earn £100M even for finishing bottom.

    I'm with Matoakwell!

Whether it's a good model is another matter, but I wouldn't say it's similar to ours. They've kept the same head coach for a number of years for a start.

So the £100 million investment seems to have paid off in terms of ROI and on-field success. Unfortunately BFC won’t be able to raise that kind of money but what about the Luton model? I think they mix youth with experience and shrewd signings. Requires a lot of expertise and a large slice of luck but not unattainable. Lowest average home gates in the Championship - so not a rich club.

I think its great Luton are in the prem...far too often we were told ...we shouldn't have loan players and the only way to gain any kind of promotion was to spend unsustainable amounts on wages and fees. Well hello this is refreshing.
Will be cheering them on next season for sure.

£55 million on incoming transfers with minimal going out, £33 million in wages for playing staff only for last season and circa £80million for new stadium that he can never sell without Bees Utd allowing makes a big dent in them figures though.
21/22 they report profit of £25m before tax, year before a loss of over £50m.
Gotta stay in league for a few more years yet to make it worthwhile on a financial level.

They've been successful, but for every club like Brentford, there's about 10 more who have tried to do the same and ended up in crippling debt.

The reason he left is probably pretty simple.

More money, closer to home, championship club. Possibly push for the premier league too and also will he get a bigger club any time soon….. probably not.

There maybe a bit of no money to spend at Barnsley. He may also think hes done as much as he can with what hes got at Barnsley.

Whatever it was hes gone and we need someone in ASAP before half of pre season is done with.

As I mentioned in another post, that would be like losing in the Championship playoffs with Norwich and claiming that you'd taken them as far as you could.

I don't think the board are trying to cut costs. If anything I reckon they're protecting their investment and the big news is probably that we're being sold to the Algerian government or Royal Family.

To be fair, when Khaled talks about his 'big news' for people to get excited about, and Gally suggests that he knows what it is and keeps mentioning it, then naturally it implores people to respond and say go on then, tell us what it is. Particularly when we continue to have bad news (Duff, Mads) or no news (new manager) coming out of the club. If you don't want people to keep asking questions about the thing that you keep referring to but won't say what it is, the best course of action is for those 'in the know' to keep schtum until it's time to announce the thing that they say is going to be announced. Otherwise it just gives false hope and is, to be honest, a bit annoying.
