The essence of Barnsley FC's spirit is encapsulated in the club's ethos of "Winning is Being Barnsley." It represents the core values of authenticity, determination, and resilience that define the club. Being true to who we are at all times, with muck, nettles, grit, and backbone, is at the heart of our identity. Understanding ourselves and bringing that essence to the world is what it means to be Barnsley.

Sounds like summat Flitcroft used to come out with!!

Not sure there’s anything authentic about expecting Barnsley to win!

I think they meant "mettle" rather than nettles... It's all a bit cringe, as the kids say.

I found the reference to nettles confusing. Reminded me of a snicket when i was a kid that I used as a short cut called 'dot leaf den.'

Edit: we all called it 'dot leaf' but it shouldve been 'dock'

‘Core values’ ‘essence’ ‘at the heart of’ ‘authenticity’

Could be Barnsley Fc. Or Thames Water. Or Network Rail. Or the Royal Bank of Satan. Or one of a thousand companies spewing out meaningless twaddle to disguise the fact they know **** all about **** all.

What I always find cringeworthy is the attempt to claim hard work, straight talking, resilience and back to the wall spirit as something unique to Barnsley. It's rubbish. There are towns all over the country that can claim the same. You'd have thought we'd never have won two World Wars if Barnsley hadn't been front and centre.
Those values do run through the town but I'm sorry, we're not unique.
It's our club, our team and our town and we're proud of them. That's all that needs to be said.

We bring out a red shirt "it's boring", "looks like a training top" "we want something different" ...

You get something different and "who writes this rubbish", "load of ******" etc.

    **** me. Barnsley. x
