    Wow, if I had seen that picture without context I would never have imagined she was 100! She looks incredibly fit and healthy for her age! Happy birthday!

    She’s brilliant, a little deaf but otherwise fully compos mentis. Most people guess she's between 85 and 90. Another party for her coming up on Saturday for a different set of guests.

    I told her that a load of Barnsley fans wished her well, she struggled to understand how you could see her photo so quickly, but says "danke schön".

    My late Nan was 6 months shy of her 100th before passing. I was absolutely devastated and more so because I really wanted her to get there.

    I'm fascinated by folks who were born before the 2nd World War. Especially your Ellie who is German, I presume.
    What she experienced up to and during the war I cannot imagine, but it is still of immense interest to me.
    She must have many, many tales to tell. You must try to get these from her before it is too late, assuming she is willing to tell them.

    Very impressive to be mentally alert at such an advanced age. John B Goodenough died recently. He was also 100 years old and an active researcher and Chemistry Professor at Texas A&M University up till his recent demise. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry at age 96 for lithium ion batteries. He was retired by Oxford University when he was in his 60’s then moved to the US where he continued his seminal research.

    Fingers crossed but my Dad is 100 on 28th July, surprise party a week before and Sunday lunch with children, grandchildren and greatgrand children on the actual weekend. We are trying to persuade him to renew his legends suite season ticket he is unsure as he missed a few matches due to a couple of stays in hospital; but everybody likes to talk to him and he always put on the table with guest returning footballers.

    I believe she worked as a nurse during the war, looking after the injured. However, it's a subject we conveniently ignore, in a "don't mention the war" kind of way. It was 80 odd years ago, and we've all moved on.

    I've a photo of my three great-aunts - sisters- who had a total age of 297 years - 94, 100, 103. The older two lived to be 105 and 108 the youngest to 98.
    Definitely something in their genes.
    The themselves were completely unfazed by their longevity and didn't know what the fuss was about.
    They were deeply religious and perversely had been looking forward to going to Heaven for about 60 years before they died!
