My daughter worked for a law firm which pursued these on behalf of the parking owners. Generally speaking they will chase you down as it’s the law firms business model to recover the fine and take their cut-if people refuse to pay after a court judgement it will go to those people who come to your house and remove stuff. The only way you’ll win an appeal is if you’re lucky enough to get someone in the firm who is sympathetic to your circumstances. My daughter refused to follow up on a request from a client after she investigated and spoke to the person being fined for parking at a hospital because she had cancer and her mum had just died. Both her boss and the parking company wanted her money despite all that, my daughter just stood her ground. They’re pretty heartless and I’ve You’re in the system the incentive and the law is in their favour.
I've got quite a lot of experience with this through work, DON'T ignore it. Fine to contest it, nothing to lose, but if you fail that, which usually happens, I'd just pay it. Come across loads of people through work who've had CCJs for parking fines which ruins your finances for 6 years; not worth the hassle.
I’ve contested them before and won and. I know others who have too, all with help of an appeal letter wrote by a law student. Unfortunately I no longer have the letter. But it was more about the actual fine being justifiable for the the offence. Ie £60 for being over a line, when like you say it hasn’t effected anyone. I know some on here saying you have broken the rules but the letter went on about a crime not being committed, no damage caused etc. just had to fill in the gaps with. Name of company, amount of fine etc. it worked for me my fine was £80. But it wa quite a few years ago , so things have possibly changed
That will have been on the basis that they were regarded as penalty clauses which weren't genuinely linked to loss suffered and therefore unenforceable. Unfortunately there was a judgment a few years ago which changed that, and they are now enforceable.
How did you get on? I've just had something very similar happen to me. I parked, noticed that my wheels were in the yellow area when I got out, and immediately reparked. My car must have been incorrectly parked for about a minute. £100. I appealed yesterday as soon as the letter arrived and I'm going to the car park today to see if I can gather any photographic evidence to strengthen my case.
This. The sign usually says " park within the designated markings" or some such; nowt to do with affecting other vehicles.
Watch out if you use Ibis/Toby car park at Dodworth. They've just introduced camera fines after never doing that before and loads are getting tickets due to not being aware of the change of policy.
I once got done at Home bargains (tarn end) I put a wrong registration letter or number. into the machine. I'd purchased car day b4 and was trying to commit to memory afore I walked in the shop. I replied with the correct registration and estimated time of entry to check their records. Nice of em to let me off.
I actually got done outside Home Bargains in Lincoln! They were selling some Vocation beers off cheap so I went down to stock up. Could turn out to be the most expensive pints I've ever had if my appeal isn't successful!
Been back and forth to Sheffield Uni with the daughter and got 3 bus lane fines in 10 days all in exactly the same spot and oblivious to doing anything wrong for all of them. Paid the first 2 straight away to lower the fine to £35 but getting a bit pissed off with the third one and possibly more to follow having made a couple more trips since the last offence.
There ******** there mate, known for sat waiting and watching. Presuming it was either leaving the car park or not quite in lines?
Did the same thing and after a long too's an throw's, ended up paying, good luck, dont let the Ba5tard5 grind you down, take it on the chin.
I was quite a long way over the line, but immediately got back in the car and corrected it. I went down there today and took a lot of photos of faded markings. Hopefully I'll get somewhere with the appeal.
I had that issue with Sheffield Council, they had roadworks on Ecclesall Road, it was confusing enough... unbelievably they put a hand written cardboard sign tie wrapped to a lamppost saying no parking after 6-30pm, leading me to believe I could park up until 6-30pm...sadly not, despite writing to them they did me. I should have taken it further.
It’s regularly on local FB page about how keen they are, a local lad who worked for them claimed they were bonuses on hitting targets on how many they ticketed.
It's a right money making scam which should be banned. Wife met her mate for lunch at Manvers Costa Coffee (KFC/,Costa Coffee/Taco Bell car park). Its.a car park for customers, who else is going to park there? She didn't know there was a 2 hour time limit (Why would she, its a customer car park in the middle of nowhere) and overstayed by 10 minutes. £60 fine the robbing barstewards which goes up to £100 if she doesnt pay within 14 days. Appeal can take over 14 days. Why is this company allowed to take over customer car parks and charge £100 for parking there when you're spending money in the shops. Should be investigated and shut down.
I got a fine years ago at York Park and ride, there were no lines so was impossible to park ' in lines' sent them the money and a letter telling them to buy some white paint.
You should have contested it. We got one once for not parking in a designated space in an unmarked car park. We sent them a Google Earth screenshot of the car park and a photograph showing no lines. It got cancelled. That’s the thing with parking fines, it’s all on technicalities. There’s no getting away with breaking a rule whether it seems fair or daft or what but if they don’t get the paperwork/signage etc. spot on then it’s unenforceable.
