Repressurise ? New one on me tbf. Never seen that advertised. All those quoted I thought did just batteries.
You sure about that. I think he still has a stall downstairs in the indoor market. But I do think I've seen him in the Alhambra shop you are on about. I Guess they are both family concerns.
If it's the one near the exit for the toilets/car park don't use him. Used to use him when on the market but took a watch there for a battery change and they scratched the watch face. It was a younger man though, maybe his son.
If you just want a battery change timpsons. If you want the seals checking and a pressure test then either a watchmaker or someone like watch lab in meadow hall. Expect to pay £50 ISH . What is the water resistance of your watch??
I normally take it to the one in Oasis, Meadowhall (watch lab, watch hospital?) Just thought I'd save the journey if there was one in tarn besides the jewellers who charge a small fortune. It's water resistant to 200m, Tag Heuer Formula 1 series.
I’ve got a Tag and a Jewellers had to send it off to Tag directly. They checked all seals to ensure it’s 100% waterproof etc and give it a mini service. Cost me approximately £75 and had to wait about 4-6 weeks. Depends on the watch you have and the value of it I’d say.
A few years ago, I had a Fossil watch, took it to Tarn for a new battery and was advised it’s a specialist job as it would need to be re- pressurised, can’t remember the exact price quoted but remember it was about 75% of the price of the watch. Needless to say it’s in a box somewhere in the house.
I don't know of anyone in town who does pressure testing. The machine to do it is very expensive. For 200m watch it is well worth keeping it up, especially if you swim in the sea, snorkel or high impact water sports.
A lot of places don't like dealing with what the watch trade term "fashion watches". I recently picked up an Armani watch in a job lot of watches and tried to get the back off to change the battery but the metal was that thin it just twisted the lip in the back. Had to take it to my mate who had a vacuum removal tool. I'm a member of the British horological institute and training to be a watch technician. One of my first projects was taking apart a fossil and reattaching the hour markers that had fallen off. Your watch is most likely only 30m or 50m water resistance which isn't what it sounds. 30m is splashproof. 50m would stand a short immersion in still water at atmospheric pressure. 100m is the minimum for swimming with. The water resistance figures are a bit like car mpg figures a lab based theoretical figure. I'd take your watch to timpsons and just change the battery. Chances are the seals are ok for everyday use anyway as the watch was most likely unsuitable for swimming in when new. If you've got away with it well done btw. Gordon's tag on the other hand is properly "water resistant". It will have a screw in back and most likely screw in crown to assist in this , rather than a snap case back and a push in crown. The seals should be lubricated or replaced and the watch tested to see if they function properly in Gordon's tag.
The watch hospital from the oasis in meadowhall is owned by timpsons now. Not sure if that changes anything
Timpsons are a great company and supporters of the BHI. They train ex-convicts and disadvantaged people and profit share with employees. A model for a responsible big business. The watch lab offers services above the basic timpsons services, it would be pointless me using them but if I wasn't involved in the watch trade, I'd use them no problem.
I've been using the Sikh chap in both the Alhambra and previously in the market since the eighties. Never had a complaint, even haf watches repressurised. Nice family. Don't think he's in the market anymore.
Thanks, watch before was another Tag and l always get them repressurised. Never take them off on holiday, sea, pool etc.
