Without any more signings we could field.
    Collins
    McCarthy Cundy Kitching
    Williams Connell Caddens
    Phillips Kane
    Norwood Cole.

    Bench.Kilip,Lopata,Cotter,Moon,Russell,Shaw ,Jalo

    Waiting in the wings Ackroyd,Wolfe,Benson,Marsh,Searle

In my view a decent squad already for league one .Thats why we don't need to sign 9 players.

Big difference between quantity and quality though. Yes we've got numbers, but are those numbers good enough to build on last year? I don't think so myself. IMO that squad is definitely weaker than last season. Bench in particular. Wolfe is also looking like he'll be out for much of the season as well.

Unfortunately I don’t think Cundy is good enough for this league. Who knows what the new gaffer can do with him but going on what I’ve seen he’s short of the strengths we need. I also think we need another decent striker. If Norwood is only a 60 minute man then we need a player that is going to make an impact and actually score goals.

    Goalkeepers we are fine.

Regarding centre backs, I have nothing to base this on but I feel like Lopata might be another gem we’ve found. I quite liked McCarthy before his injury too. But Mads and Thomas are big boots to fill so I think I’d want another one in. Maybe another loan.

Wing backs, I would like cover for Cadden. I know Williams can play there but I’d rather not have to shuffle the pack too much. With Cadden’s contract up at the end of the season too, we need to do our usual layering.

For midfield, I’d argue we possibly have the best in the division in Luca, Kane and Phillips. Benson and Russell are good backups but I’d quite like someone to replace Thomas. A number 10 who can pick the ball up and run with it.

Up top it’s hard to judge because we don’t know if Shaw and Jalo will get more minutes. Either way, I’d say we need someone to hold the ball up.

Therefore, I think we need 4 or 5 if we don’t lose anyone else. Centre back, left wing back, a number 10 and a striker or 2. I imagine some of these could be premier league or championship loanees so will be later in the window when the teams above us have decided on their squads a bit more.

If you think Cole & Norwood backed up by Shaw and Jalo is a forward line that will push us towards promotion then good luck with that.
Norwood is a year older and can generally only do 60 minutes and I doubt Cole will hit last season’s heights (hope I’m wrong, just an opinion). Shaw is a very unknown quantity and Jalo still doesn’t have the physique for regular men’s football. He should be eased in gradually here and there when time is right.
Two strikers needed for me and probably one each midfielder and defender.

Jalo is a bit lightweight but he’s still developing so could end up much bigger and stronger. Thinking back though who would have thought Mick Butler would make it at league level with his physique

I said in another post we could do with another centre half an alternative striker and another midfielder. What my post was inferring do we need to sign 9 players like Portsmouth have and with the squad we already have I think not.

I've got hopes for Lopata, maybe Moon. Unsure about Cundy and McCarthy so I'd like a ready to go Central defender a la Thomas.
As has been said our current midfield is about the best in the league though I believe Collins likes to play with a number 10.
We definitely need "that" 20 goal striker. As we stand our attack isn't going to get better next season. I struggle to see how Shaw is going to have any impact given his previous record and his inability to break into the squad last season. Jalo will hopefully get more time but I don't think he's ready to make a big impact yet.
So...a central defender and a quality striker please.

The squad isn't as bad as people are making out. We still have the core of what we had last season which got us 4th.

However, as it is now it is a fair bit weaker than last time out. McCarthy looked decent before his injury and it's great he's back but there's obviously question marks over how he'll be after his injury.

We've lost Mads who was best CB in league last season and no longer have Bobby Thomas another key part of the defense.

Lost all depth we had up top too with Tedic and Watters gone.

We will make signings and will improve. But as it stands it's a weaker side.

We also have no Phillips, Benson for start of the season as it stands due to injuries or suspension.

Mads is the big loss, we can bring in as good, if not better loanees this year.

Centre back wise, I suspect Lopata will play, with Kitching, leaving one place if we continue with three at the back, which I suspect and hope we will.

McCarthy, cundy, moon competing for that place if they all stay - centre back is the one position I don’t think we need much more.

We have Phillips, Kane, Connell, Russell, Wolfe and Benson (when he’s fit) for the midfield three.

Williams needs replacing if he goes. Hopefully not. Same with Brad Collins.

We need one or two centre forwards, depending on how Neill Collins rates Shaw, and I’d like cover for Cadden.

But we don’t need masses and masses - assuming we don’t sell a lot.

Who's said we need to sign 9 players?

You wouldn't expect a top 6 finish with that squad as it stands tho would you?

Still time to strengthen the required positions

We're weak at the back. Kitching is solid enough at this level, Lopata an unknown and then Cundy/McCarthy/Moon who I'm not convinced by. We needed a proper striker last season, and we still need one this season. Other than that we're fine.

    If you're looking for a mid-table finish, i agree 100%, If we get two or three long term injuries out of thr current squard, are we good enough to keep ou the bottom half dozen. We lost 4 wembley finalists and 6 from the first team squad, plus our captain. And with them, we still failed the get promotion. We need miles better than you're starting 11 to get anywhere near top two;

In my humble oppinon of course.. time will tell

Norwood is not a year older, close season is only 3 months long & our strikers minus Watters & Tedic did the business last season & can do it again, I feel sure at least one additional striker plus a replacement for Mads will be brought in & once premier league teams have finalised their squads then loans will be available.I am not sure why but some of our fans give the impression that the squad we have now will be the one that kicks off in August ,maybe its to put a negative slant on things but the truth is with a month to go I'm sure positive additions will be made, fans just need to be patient.
