Yes heard that, some folk handing watches in and not getting them back according to the reviews due to administration
Yes. still is, Mr Singhs bottom floor of Glassworks indoor market. unless I've walked round with my eyes closed the last week or so.
You're not kidding. I can't get out of my car these days without looking like there's something seriously wrong with me. Being over 50 and having an Audi is not a good fit. I need a van, or a harness.
Funny that, because I had a cheap ish Nike watch that was waterproof to 50m, and have been swimming and snorkelling in it loads with no issue. Phones on the other hand… never waterproof!
Timpsons used to do it. Not sure if they still do. He put it in a glass dome pressure thing. But I’m going back about 15 years…
Twenty years ago I bought a Rolex in Fuerteventura for about €8. I was a bit worried about whether anyone would swap the battery for me when the time came. The African tribesman who sold it to me said: "My friend, the battery will last as long as the watch!" He was right!
There used to be a little shop in Dodworth where, according to the sign, you could watch batteries fitted. Later on you could also watch repairs. It was really interesting viewing, depending on what was being repaired.
Got a lifetime of watch free battery fitting at Timpsons for £12 over 10 years ago now.. watch still going strong and its probably worked out as £1 a battery so far!
Interesting. Local Timpsons won't entertain changing the battery in my base Breitling so I'm not even going to ask them about my good one. Had that 17 years now; it could do with a service but to send it off to Breitling is extortionate.
I know a watchmaker in Manchester who trained at Breitling. He's serviced my automatic chronograph and renovated a 1955 gold one I bought. Charges half what Breitling ask, trouble is he's chocker block with work. No Breitling dealer is allowed to take a back off, they just send it to the UK service centre. Timpsons probably won't touch it in case it gets damaged. Watch lab probably will. Why do you think your quartz needs a service? While they still have a gear train they don't have keyless works or an escapement and less than half the moving parts of a mechanical watch and should last considerably longer without a service.
I did the same. Battery needs changing once a year, but I get it done for free at the Asda branch while I'm doing my shopping. The rest of my family have all done the same. I don't know how Timpsons make any profit!
