Recently joined my old school's site on Facebook. You have to be 'accepted' before posting any messages. No problem. Using the 'notification' icon have posted messages and responded to other messages. These messages can be seen by all members. Using the 'message' icon have sent some members a private message but am not getting any replies. I use a laptop to access Facebook. 1) Do you have to have accepted someone as a 'Friend' before you can message them? 2) Would a Facebook user accessing the site on their Smart phone be able to see these messages on their phone and reply to my Laptop messages? (Does a 'Messenger' app have anything to do with this ?)
If you arent friends with them they probably wont get any notifications and will have to accept messages from you. The place you do this is a bit hidden away (and people often dont look at that inbox as its often only has scmammers and spammers messages in there. Send them a friend request would be my advice.
As Gally said, the messages go into an ‘Other’ folder which is equivalent to the Junk folder for an email, if you’re not friends. People might check it but probably won’t.
If they use Messenger it maybe in the '3 lines' top left and then under Message Requests, they have to then accept the incoming message, they don't get a notification to say soemthing has arrived initially
If any kind hearted soul wouldn't mind getting in touch with someone on facebook on my behalf, please could you PM me. My old neighbour Sam didn't return to his flat, and I found out through the local pub that he had been taken into care. He has my number but I don't have his, but I searched his name and saw he is on facebook (I don't have an account myself). I'm worried he may have passed away (he was deteriorating before being taken away), and it would mean a lot if someone could try and contact him with a message to contact me. Please could someone PM me if they wouldn't mind? Thank you, Luke
