When you have some really good players going to places like Man City and taking quite some time to understand what Pep wants it shouldn’t be unexpected for us to have the same issues with lesser players/coaches/facilities. Probably more a reflection on society today in general.
Or Glavin I'm led to believe by some I have spoken to. but I dont recollect that at the time tbh. Re kitching I never wanted him dropped. His enthusiasm was winning me over. But a few were saying a liability and headstrong ((if that's the word) Duff even commented on having to have words for that reason.
I seem to remember the main complaint was "he added nothing to the team if you removed his goals and assists".
Saw a YouTube video about Messi the other day. Apparently spent about 90% of his games walking. Lazy fecker. Correction, found the video, it was 85% of the time. Lad needs to put a shift in.
We all make judgments about players. For me, regardless of goals scored, assists, running about etc etc.. its whether a player is really contributing to the team in a way that is above and beyond what could reasonably be expected at the level we are at and relative to other teammates. So, for example, I think Kitching has improved markedly in all departments and is worthy of his starting place in the team. I'm not happy with Cole in spite of his goals because I think he could have done even better in that position for a couple of reasons. Similarly I think Adeyboyejo worked really hard, and had strength but, contextually, I'm glad he's gone. Just the way I view things.
It wor Clarkey who didn't rate Glav. Yes he was overweight but Clarke wanted Glav to play as a defensive midfielder. He actually dropped Glav after he'd ignored Clarke's instruction and had the temerity to break out of midfield to score his first goal for us. Clarke's response was to drop him for the next game.
My biggest issue was Hourihanes antics. falling over easily as if been shot the main one. Hammill was the one who got him to stop. And imo made him the quality player he became.
I remember thinking Bobby was absolutely ***** in his first season. That was under Paul Hart though, so that's my excuse. As an aside, I wonder if he's the BFC player to have played for most managers? Hart, Ritchie, Davey, Robins, Hill, Flitcroft & Wilson?
We all get things wrong from time to time. I remember thinking that Ivan Toney wasn't quite up to it when we won the play offs. I'd rather have had Fletcher... There ya go.
