When I worked at Northern College, we showed the film and Mike Jackson (the one with the glasses) came and answered questions about the film. Very interesting afternoon hearing about the movement.

The young lad in the film Joe, they nicknamed him Bromley.
The really sad part was the leader of the group died when he was 26, that's around our age when we were on strike.

    a brilliant film!

'Miners groups were among the most outspoken allies of the LGBT Community in the 1988 campaign against Section 28.

"Almost overnight we became their favourites because gay men are quite good at drinking beer," Mike joked.

"By the end of that first night at the Onllwyn** Miners' Welfare [Hall] we turned from being political comrades into good buddies.

''Four decades since 1984 strike ..........unlikely friendships forged between a South Wales Community and Gay Activists are as strong as ever.''

"We became best of friends and have remained so ever since."

Been today. 8 on us. Family.
Weather a bit hit and miss and maybe a slight reduced turnout. But still plenty there. The bands were well received. The party atmosphere prevailed. Saw 3 gugen bands. Frumptarn more polished and fun than last time I saw em. Pride was well attended and despite the weather enjoyed by those there.
Barnsley and proud, Mainly of the way things are gaining momentum with these frequent events. Keep it up tarn. Credit where credit is due.

    PRIDE film -- brilliant.

    BBC 1 - 10.30 p. m. Sunday July 30.

Group of gay rights activists travel to South Wales to support striking Welsh miners - 1984

The alliances which the campaign forged between the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and British labour groups proved to be an important turning point in the progression of LGBT matters in the United Kingdom.[2] Miners' labour groups began to support, endorse and participate in various gay pride events throughout the UK,
