Have we turned into the USA? I didn’t know so many of you lived in starmers constituency.

Vote for the best candidate in yours, I’ll wager it’s usually the Labour lad or lass.

He’s in hock to the hedge funders , his priorities are no different to the current regimes , reform not funding of public services , wealth creation and trickle down economics not redistribution of wealth , there really is no difference

Until young people get off their arses and start voting, the only way Labour can get in is by appealing to them that actually vote. That means moving to the centre/right. The Tories turned right and now Sunak is trying to steer them slightly to the centre. You can't honestly expect Labour to come out with a huge spending splurge can you? They'd be cannon fodder and wouldn't even get their foot in the door, never mind last as long as Truss. Hard times I'm afraid.

Well then let’s keep the current criminals in power, let’s see how that goes. After 13 years of **** government it’s about time for a change as the current lot have offered nothing, if at the end of 5 years you don’t like it and Labour are as just as bad as the current lot, vote the feckers out. However, if you think a return to the hard left is the answer, then the conservatives will be in power for a very long time. As much as I agreed with the majority of what Corbyn said at the last election, there was absolutely no way he would have been successful, the right wing press and media outlets sorted to that and will do so in future.

This is possibly to weirdest notion I’ve read on Starmer.

He’s costing himself hundreds of thousands a year in earnings by being in politics. He’d make ten times what he does in politics if he went back into law full time.

There’s a lot of things you can fairly accuse Keir Starmer of but being in it for the money isn’t one of them.

I'd advise everyone to let the rich lovely people keep running the country. We've all profited massively from the free market after all.

Edit... I mean't to say lovely people, but it was changed to "lovely people", admin, couldn't lovely people be defaulted to Tories?

The only message Starmer is saying is ‘We are Conservatives but not the current lot in power ‘ , hes not going to win a majority anyway

I’m not particularly a Starmer apologist, I’m not a big fan at all. And the Labour Party aren’t in any way cool.

But I think you know exactly what game is being played here. If as the leader of the opposition you don’t play the game to try and win the centre ground you lose.

Your idealism, which I’d assume is a socialist one similar to mine, isn’t electable in the current climate. Corbyn was absolutely mullered by 90% of the media for policies which were actually costed and sound but viewed as the ramblings of a communist nutjob by the time they’d finished with him.

Starmer isn’t liked by the further left of the party and I think a lot of that stems from that he’s knighted and has a lot of money. He’s also shifted to the centre from the left in what he’s saying. But you don’t have to scratch too deep into his history to see how much of an actual socialist he is.

He’s playing politics at the moment, of course he is. He’s being moderate instead of radical - and he’ll likely win the next election. Especially now the snp are imploding north of the border.

He isn’t suggesting enough change for my taste. But this suggestion that he’s just a Tory are plainly wrong. He can only suggest policy based on what he sees he’d be inheriting, which is an absolute mess and serves to at least partly explain the watering down of his further left leaning policies.

I genuinely think he’s playing the game to be elected, appealing to the squeezed middle who have been voting blue for a decade and a half - and my fear is in doing so he’ll end up losing the faith of the core Labour vote. He’s certainly gaining a fair few haters.

When it comes down to it you can vote for who you want, if you want to go elsewhere, a green candidate or an independent maybe, that’s understandable. But the sitting government after the next general election will either be Tory or Labour. Real, nasty, country ruining tories, or a Labour Party who aren’t quite as far left as you’d like. Anyone abandoning the Labour Party, and I’m not saying I can’t see why you wouldn’t, might well end up keeping the sitting government in for another five years and I really don’t think we can take that.

If it were up to me I’d parachute Andy Burnham into a safe seat and instal him as leader - but they won’t and in a first past the post electoral system which has essentially led to a two party system in this country, it isn’t a tough choice which to choose for me, even if I’d prefer a further left approach.

Look up how many people voted for Corbyn.

Under our joke of a democracy the only thing that would really make a difference is shipping young people out to the right constituencies so they can vote there.

That's my hope. Ideally he has to share with the lib dems then he can use them as cover to: (wishful thinking)
    • Get back into the EU or at least the single market
    • Introduce proportional representation
    • Replace the House of Lords

The bookies are rarely wrong and they have a Labour majority 1/2 and a hung parliament at 3/1, with the tories 9/1.

The chances of a hung parliament diminished hugely when it became apparent that the SNP were going to lose a lot on Scotland. The majority of the ones they lose will go back to Labour.

Politics isn't my strong point, but isn't he basically saying there isn't enough money for the public services, change the 2 child limit etc?

Again, I pay little attention to politics (and don't have a negative or positive view on Starmer) so stand to be corrected, but just wondering what people think he should then be promising at this stage? And when I say promising, I mean actually being able to deliver on things based on the finances of the country.

What is the right costed answer at the moment?

What is ‘a return to the hard left’? Serious question.

I'm not in any way suggesting that there aren't some major problems to solve. Far from it. The Tories have ruined the economy, ruined peoples lives and cause division across society. My point is about Starmer and what he stands for. He MAY very well implement some good stuff if and when Labour get in, but again that's not my point. My point is he comes across as someone who doesn't stand for anything. Promises he has made in the past he breaks. Commitments he says Labour will have are watered down or abandoned. He is banking on people being so fed up with the Tories that they will vote Labour by default. Its a sad indictment of a democratic system when the leader of the main opposition doesn't tell us what his party actually stands for or believes in. Some stuff he says such as 'we want growth' can be agreed by other parties. Liz Truss said the same thing. That's all. I don't like people who lie or are quite simply deceitful. That's one reason why Boris Johnson is such a despicable character. He lies all the time. So does Starmer. The fact that he's Labour is irrelevant to me. He should be more honest.

I really hope so, as the Lib Dems are far to the left of Labour these days on most issues. I'll be campaigning for Labour in my constituency as it's a very marginal two-horse race and the Tory incumbent is an utter cnt. But for the country, a Labour-Lib Dem coalition would be immensely better than a Labour landslide.

If they made absent fathers more accountable less money would be used up in taxes.

They don’t though. This is a smoke screen the wañk ones hide behind, they are quite happy for it to be repeated by people.
