I don't get the "he's a improvement on cole" if he was micheal duff a head coach who some said was the best we have ever had would have started him before cole. Cole scored more goals than smith at Cambridge who many wanted us to sign, more than windass and Lee Gregory and took 0 pens. I think the watters signing is good but if he was all that he would have started more last season sometimes looked disinterested.
I don’t understand some of the criticism. The one thing I thought he did do was give 100% every game. He looked a proper grafter to me. I’d definitely take him.
I think 80% are saying it would be a good signing. We have 2 strikers who are of league 1 quality it's not enough on a free at a good age no brainer. Hopefully he gets more time than duff gave him.
His work rate was a criticism of mine towards him seems to be one of those players who gets going when he's proper amped up
It was tough for him in that we showed automatic promotion form from about October onwards & he joined in January. He was also a bit unlucky in that I think all 4 strikers were pretty much fit all the time he was here. Normally you’d expect an injury or two & he might have got a run of starts.
Duff was happy shuffling his forwards around, which is fine. I suspect Watters would have got far more relative minutes on the field if he'd been at the club since summer with a full pre-season behind him. As I've mentioned in other posts, I'm not knocking Cole. He's a very limited player, but he very much played to his strengths last season. At this level he's a great option to have, but I just think we need a bit more variation up front. I honestly believe we didn't come close to seeing what Watters can really do.
Duff rotated all the strikers except Cole after January Cole was always present. He scored more goals than all the strikers I mentioned who if we signed any this window fans would be creaming over it, he also had a better goal per minute ratio than all of them. Cole was great at the high press that duff played, he has good pace and can last 90 minutes. Be interesting to see who Collins prefers as his starting 2 but Cole was very much duffs 1st choice.
We did get a glimpse of his attributes, second half MK Don's. Let us see if he can repeat this consistently. To do that he needs a run of games which were limited under Duff
I'd take him back on a perm but not a loan. Would like to see what the settled article looks like. My concern was after his sending off for the elbow ...... 1st game back, his first challenge he could have easily gone for the same offence. Seems scared to put his head in, which I find strange for a big guy in a Pro league. Definitely a 'baller in there though.
Obvious logic for him coming back, and probably as good as we can realistically get, but personally think he has a lot of work on, to hit 15+
Looked a cart horse at times but showed some skill when notching against the pigs, I think he could be good for us. But no guarantees.
I'd have him in a flash. We could do a lot worse and for free there just isn't a simpler choice to be made. I would hope that we can agree terms with him personally. Cardiff seem to be having to free a number of players, including Max, probably in order to make space in their budget for Ramsey. Good news for us. I hope he comes. Knows the team and the system and would, I would wager, respond to Collins' system in which the attackers become the first line of defence with the high press. I also read that Collins' system in Tampa used a physical target man centre forward in the style of Shipperley, or Aylott of days gone by. We were reported at one stage to be interested in signing Aaron Pressley from Brentford and he would fit that mould well. Norwood would also, of course, but we need a second player who can play that role, so they can be switched around during games to keep the energy levels up. Those two would give us the two new strikers we look as though we would need.
Scored against piggies so he's already in the good books, liked him but he seemed unsure of his positioning when coming on and drifted across his striking partner too much. agree with many though with a run of games positioning and when to stay or go vastly improve so well worth a punt..
