We seem to struggle to get signings over the line, using the model that we do, I can’t understand why we don’t have a director of football than if we lose our manager we are still able to push on and not be in the position we are in.
Fair point, seems to be the case in most other clubs where the head coach isn't primarily identifying targets.
I'm guessing Khaled does that role. He controls the purse strings. And will I assume put to the board if necessary to push the boat out. They do have someone using the model. An analyst. (Used to be James Cryne).Coaches will be part of the selection process. Also We signed a few b4 Collins came in. Be it a few for the U23/18s. Collins will now be consulted on his choices if they fit the bill. I'm sure he'll have some input. Norwood was an obvious one for Duff. Maybe this is the person that goes back to the team (coaching etc) and finishes up at Khaled. The lad we signed last week from Burnley I'm pretty sure came from observations from the academy team coaches and Bobby. I assume he went and said get this lad in gaffer. As Bobby was that impressed and called him the BEST centre half in the Academy leagues.
Would make sense with how we operate. Not unheard of doing that at this level either, Barry Fry has been Peterborough’s DOF for years.
I've said this from the day we moved away from the manager role to the head coach role. Somebody in the middle that has experience at the top level that can advise and guide the board and offer advice to what are sometimes seemingly inexperienced coaches
In your opinion. I dont have a clue of the workings of getting signings over the line. I'm guessing you'd just throw money at it. No matter the cost.
We have a full time recruitment team which uses data, old fashioned scouting with input from the coach,do we really need anybody else? we seem to get by without a director of football. I have never known a season in 56 years of watching Barnsley where we have never signed any players in pre season and this year will be no different. I don't understand the comment that we struggle to get signings over the line we never have before and we never will going forward.
Wow never knew that.I suppose I was generalising but that is a good stat.Having said that the fans of today would be in total meltdown if 1973 came around again.
Nope I would definitely not throw money at it, I would employ somebody who knows what they’re doing for starters!
I think Khaled will announce 5 signings together this week the bradford goalie, Deborah, the Grimsby lad, Watters and Billy Sharp. You reds champions
Id suggest Khaled knew what he was doing last season when Cadden, Phillips, Norwood, Isted, B. Thomas and especially Connell arrived? Fans were raving about Russell too...
You dont employ him though. Pretty sure he'll be under scrutiny as he was employed by conman. I'd agree there are things I'm not happy about but I have given reasons and have encountered those things at meetings. What I dont know. ( and this is what the subject matter is. nothing else ) Are Signings being mishandled. Like you i assume. I can only guess. I don't sway one way or the other. It has been said they have valuation of players that has to be met if considered to sell. Running down of contracts sometimes changes the goalposts. Just a decision based on circumstances. I've worked in industry all my life. And know who the incompetent ones are because I see it and can prove it. But it doesnt make em incompetent in every aspect of the job. And the trouble is those above em dont want to know. Until it becomes clear.
