I took my daughter into Barnsley on Sunday for the Big Weekend at the Glassworks before we went to see my parents. She had a fantastic time trying a bunch of different activities including a VR ride on a swing, and various fitness activities including a bike/ track. Reds in the community were there doing activities as well as Toby Tyke. Afterwards, we had a cheeky Nandos. :) What an amazing space the glassworks is and it's great to see Barnsley buzzing like this. They have done a fantastic job on Town centre re-development. I had a good look at Nudgers Bridge as well. It will be a fantastic finishing touch and gateway to Oakwell once it's complete later in the year.

Didn't realise they had an Almurad's in there. Is that where you saw Toby Tyle?

The Glassworks looks great. Unfortunately, it highlights how bad the rest of the town centre is. The Alhambra need sprucing up, and the side opposite Glassworks probably needs demolishing and starting again...

There are plans, but not everything can happen at once. The old BHS building is earmarked for demolition, but won’t be replaced with more buildings - It’s to create more green space. Superdrug needs to move first (there isn’t a unit big enough for them in The Glassworks). The council don’t own a lot of that side either and compulsory purchases can be difficult. However, with Boots planning to close around 300 stores, I wouldn’t be surprised if the one in town goes due to the proximity to the one at Cortonwood. It’s had little investment for about 15 years (other than new external signage). If that does end up empty, I can see the rationale for demolishing that row of shops at some point further down the line.

It's so much nicer than Wakefield, Huddersfield, Rotherham etc now, whereas 5 years ago it was probably worse.

There was an article in the Wkfd Express a few weeks ago suggesting that the Wakey hierarchy take some much needed advice from the relevant Planners for Barnsley.
It was, apparently rejected but Wakefield City centre is in a similar situation as you say Lincoln is.

It's nice to hear the older end. Loving the transformation. Instead of, it's not like the old Barnsley. And bemoaning the fact.
I remember a couple on here (who'd left tarn) dissing the town and its people for all it's worth. Unjustifiably. Taking it to an extreme level. Well to those of you, get your arses back and take a look . Better still I'd rather you not. Given your hatred in one or 2 cases.

What’s needed now is locals who regular go out of Tarn to shop, eat, etc, to stop turning their noses up at Barnsley and visit it more regularly

I've urged a few in Sheffield to visit, by and large very impressed and a couple are now regular visitors.

Wakefield centre has been on a decline like most places, but there's stuff happening at various locations with a plan in place:

    https://www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/...ity-city-centre-masterplan-signed-off-3570526

Ridings has been bought out and new shops opening including a bowling alley on the way. The row of shops down kirkgate end is being demolished as we speak. The old crown court and area around the cenotaph is going to be transformed.

The re-generation around the old Mills on Barnsley Road looks great and its brought it new creative businesses - they're starting music apprenticeships here for budding musicians and sound engineering/mixing jobs:

    https://www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/...to-wakefields-vast-new-creative-space-4048231

    Plenty happening in Wakefield.
