Only played a handful of games for us. Hope the link works. Edit, no it hasn’t it was from FB, I’ll try again
Yes. Not sure why. Maybe the name stuck. Wasn't he a winger. I think it's the same guy on a facebook post. Had his leg amputated (saved his life ?) after a crash. In which he was drink driving.
I remember Ramsgate ferry. Used to do a brilliant smorgasbord. Worth a day trip to France just for that. Happy days!
Saw the story yesterday. I've often used his name to take the pi$$ out of the type of player we sign but this is a sad state of affairs. Try this link. https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http...ID975cOh5QgjLRXDVSiZsCr-aXqB3wWZkcNW1tco87ebw
I also picked up on another BBS thread from 2012 when I googled him. that people commented on how good he was. I'll give you Paul Gibbs as a contender for worst ever player lol. But to be fair he appears to have more games behind him. half in non league.
I had a brief conversation on FB with him a couple of years ago. He was just out of his depth when he signed for us. Big, strong centre forward but not really good enough for our needs at the time.
Honestly - Willie Ferry. He was like the guy Grahame Souness signed for Southampton on the strength of a video. No offense to the lad but I suspect the amputation may have made him a better footballer.
I know they played at a higher level but Peter Sands & Brek Shey have got to be in the running for our worst ever signings .
Yes, I was just going to say that reading that article now makes me feel bad, cos when I made the Top Trumps I put him in as a joke card for my kids to want to avoid!
An ex-player, from this era, told me a story about Willie Ferry. He’d not been signed for us long, and one morning, on his way to training, popped into a supermarket where he won a trolley dash and duly did it there and than making him late for training. From that day on, Clarkey was gunning for him and wanted him gone.
