Hopefully a bit of brighter news amongst the pre-season frustrations, Mrs Metatarsal and myself were married 25 years today at Holy Rood Church in town. We met at Barnsley Hospital in 1996 as she was qualifying as a Staff Nurse and she's worked on the Renal Unit at the Northern General since September 96, now a Ward Sister. We've managed to produce two fine children and she's always known Barnsley FC as a big part of my life and where many of my friendships are, and whilst the football relationship has been very much up and down, I can safely say (from my angle anyway) the marriage has been "for better". She's an absolute rock. Quiet day today, going to try the Yorkshire Brasserie this evening for a meal. We've had a lovely couple of weeks leading up to today - she treated me to three days in London topped off with tickets to see Billy Joel perform at Hyde Park, a bucket list event for me, he was fantastic. And this last Friday we saw our son graduate at University of Birmingham with a BMedSc (Hons) in Cardiovascular Science - he now has two years left before hopefully completing his medical degree and qualifying as a doctor in 2025. Our daughter has inherited my wife's instinct for care and is currently studying to be a Children's Nurse in Derby. Our real treat comes in October with a holiday of a lifetime that we've saved for over years and years, in Africa. Time to write the story of the next 25 years, both at home and at Oakwell.
Thank you mate. We've planned it with Trailfinders and gone for 3 days in Victoria Falls with local tours, 3 days in Cape Town (doing tours to the Cape, Boulders Beach and Table Mountain), 4 days at Amakhala Game Reserve on safari and then fly out to Mauritius for a week. Fly out from Heathrow and return to Gatwick.
Congratulations. Love seeing these types of posts even more so since I used to go to mass at Holy Rood
Well done and many congratulations to both of you and to the young metatarsals. Great seeing kids get on in life.
Congratulations. Today isn't my wedding anniversary, but it is my 30th anniversary of getting together with my wife - our 27th wedding anniversary is on the 30th. When you were getting married, I lived just up the road on Castlereagh Street, so we quite probably commented on your wedding...
