When a player presses forward ,is not that expected that other defenders cover for them.

Cotter has real talent on the ball and going forward. I’d be looking to make an attacking midfielder of him.

    Next Trent Alexander Arnold…

Last thing he needs is stick.

    (Anticipating Terrence Trent Darby retort…)

Yes I have to agree on him going forward with the ball, also on the don't get on his back .
However the trent comparison I think that is a bit of an exaggerated statement.

We need to help him improve, it’s us that told him to “sign your name” on the contract.

Besides I bet he said to Collins that he’ll improve “if you let me stay” in the team.

Either way he’s our player and whilst he needs a lot of work, I’m sure we’re all “wishing (him) well”.

Bit early to bin him off yet.. may feel the pressures on to impress. Deborah signs, moves Williams back to wing-back, Cotter's back on the bench again.
let's face it Cotter will only start if we sell Williams or if he gets injured

Very good going forward ,wouldn't write him off ,if he's considered being played further up the field.
Definitely needs attention regards defending, but agree he could be real handful for opposing defenders when he surges forward.
Needs help and coaching ,not lambasting.
Thought the critics were a bit harsh.

Only seen him start one game & he looked good going forward but was all over the place defensively & didn’t look fit enough.

The good thing is it’s far easier to improve the defensive side of your game & I’d imagine he’ll be a lot fitter after having a full pre-season with us. Nothing against the Irish league but I’d imagine the fitness levels aren’t to the same standard.

My guess is he’ll be a good player for us going forward & could end up making us a couple of million if we can add to his obvious ability going forward.

Collins played a 3-2-3-2 at Tampa.. with the wide men being more wingers than wing-backs. Being covered not only by the left/right of the back 3 but also the extra insurance of the two holding mid-fielders..
May still be room for Cotter in a more forward role as you say..

Ed .. a formation that would suit Cadden as well who is also way better going forward than defending

Being able to run at players is such a rare talent that it's something we need to be taking advantage of. I didn't see anyone getting too fixated on Adam Hammill's defensive abilities.

If Cadden had a yard more pace he'd be playing in the Premier League and an automatic selection for Scotland. Absolutely fantastic footballer.

The problem when a player is wing back ,his defensive frailties start coming into account.
Then there's the reluctance to bomb forward.

Agreed. So just make him into a winger! Or is that an oversimplification?!

It was the stupid pushing team mates about when being told to calm down after flying in for stupid tackles, that was the main issue. Then refusing to go to the ref. Nowt to do with trying to impress. 100% fair that he be criticised for it (for this match), if it had been a league match wwe would have been down to 10 men.

It's more of a marker on him for hope that it was a one off rather than him becoming a whipping boy.

I love him. Watching him is a whirlwind. He is clearly massively out of his depth at full back / wing back and at his age can’t see how we can train into him positional sense but is a great wildcard to have on the bench for forward positions. As John says his role can only be as a winger / striker he is nowhere near sound enough defensively

With all due respect to anyone getting on the lads back, he’s played a handful of games at this level and is still learning.
He’s definitely got something about him and will probably fit in with how NC wants to play.
Once we settle on who is playing on the right of the back 3 he’ll settle in much better.
