At worst we'll have to battle for a playoff spot with this squad. A couple more signings and a couple of youngsters coming good and we'll be in the automatic hunt. Even if Collins is useless he'll do well to take this squad down.
Collins will have to be an absolute numpty to undo what Duff did overnight. Especially after only losing Anderson.
Of course, you’re right… We have one of the best midfields in the division. All of Connell, Phillips and Kane would walk into most other teams in the league. Russell and Benson would be in the starting eleven of most other sides too. Defensively we’ve lost our captain of course but we have other centre backs with experience at this level and have brought more in. Our first choice centre forward pairing in the team that got to 86 points last season is still here. We’ve signed a highly rated and very good goalkeeper on loan to replace the one who left in Collins, and another experienced keeper to replace the one we never had in Isted. We have brought in a number of other players to improve the squad and are linked with numerous others. The standard won’t be better this season than it was last season. Maybe worse. To suggest there won’t be four worse teams than us with what came up from league two, and teams like port vale and Cambridge who stayed up, it beggars belief. If we are relegated this season it will only be because we’ve been deducted at least 25 points. Which we won’t. I’m not saying we will waltz to promotion as we do look to have been weakened, especially with having a new head coach to embed his ideas, but relegation fodder? Absolute claptrap.
As Jay said the other day: Last season our strikers were Norwood and Cole. They're still here. Our midfield was Connell, Kane and Phillips with back up from Benson, Russell and Wolfe. They're all still here. Our wing backs were Cadden and Williams. They're still here. Our most improved player, Liam Kitching, he's still here. We've sold Andersen and Collins. Also, we've signed a decent keeper, James looked decent the other night and I think we will expect more incomings. Suggesting we are anywhere near relegation fodder doesn't make sense. Have you seen how poor some of the teams at the other end of this league are?
I dont think so, followed Barnsley for nearly 50 years, in fact i bet i have a pair of underpants older than you.
