and then I'll be quiet... No-one from the Club has contacted Keith to discuss anything ... Following the spontaeneous support for Keith, I was sure that the Club would realise that they have just shot a committed and good employee and supporter. I'm a moderate on here... I'd be a 'happy clapper' to the insulting, overly negative types. But more than one person at the Club has been stupid stupid stupid. That is my last word... stupid.
This is the one issue I think fans should be truly outraged by. To say they've handled it incredibly poorly is an understatement
Was Keith a Barnsley FC employee who has been sacked? I was under the impression that he's a freelance photographer who Barnsley FC hired, but have chosen to no longer do so. I understand The Barnsley Chronicle will still be hiring him to cover Barnsley games. I would imagine he'll also get plenty of photography work elsewhere too. Apologies if I've got this wrong, but I wouldn't want to read that I'd been sacked if the reality was that I simply hadn't been hired to cover events in a market that is open to thousands of others offering the same service.
I think on this issue the club have scored a massive own goal. The various members of the board and the clubs media constantly use the narrative of one club one town or words to that effect this makes me think erm just words, judge us by our actions they said. Well I am and this is not good enough, players come and and go so do manager's even board members but blokes like stretch don't.
To be fair, what do you want them to do? They've made a decision to not use his services this season. Informed him privately, he then announced it on Facebook. Yeah there's disappointment but do you want them to reverse the decision because it's had some negativity? I'd rather they stuck with their decision otherwise it'll be chaos.
What, and get sued for breaking the Data Protection Act in regards to contractual privacy? You just can’t go round telling everybody everything about your business decisions - there are ramifications!
I don't agree with the decision for if financial reasons. But does anyone really expect em to contact Stretch Cos of fans concerns. They obviously spoke to him and he respected their decision. And by that I get the impression they explained to him their reasoning. He might be upset. And they might think again. But if not, it's over and done with. Get a grip.
I don't think the club should have to explain the decision, but a simple article on the website thanking Keith for over 20 years of quality content, with a montage of his work, would have gone a long way. It's good PR, it would be something to acknowledge Keith and his work over the years, and it would have perhaps prevented the club bashing on facebook.
If your skint and can’t afford stuff, then you have to cut your cloth, why pay a photographer if your media team can do same job
Maybe the club wanted to do a nice goodbye piece, but Keith didn’t want that, considering his sadness at being discontinued
I am studying PR at the moment and use it in my day-to-day role. It would have gone a long way, even if Keith felt put out and didn't want it, the club could have insisted that they wanted to recognise his efforts over the years and publish a farewell 'thank you' with a few of his classic shots. Surely that would have been preferable to Keith announcing it on facebook, and the resulting backlash towards the club. If Keith had then insisted they don't use his images, then they could have done a simple few lines to say thanks. We'll never know.
