Even still, how can anybody, anywhere look at the current shartshow and think, yep - this is the government I want? Absolutely baffling.
Didn't exactly come across as the sharpest knife in the drawer in his speech. I accept that tensions would have been running high, but really can't see him sticking around for too long!
Khan held a press conference toady saying he stands by HIS decision to expand the ULEZ. Either it really is his decision or he is inexplicably lying to the electorate to cover up for the tories.
He needs to think about and appeal to his own voters. Despite all the posturing and social media nonsense, I'd be very surprised if these moves aren't more popular than not with Londoners. Here in Birmingham the pro-car lobby are so loud that you'd think they were the 90%, but the voting doesn't suggest that whatsoever.
They are probably unpopular enough with enough people to swing quite a few commuter belt type seats. I can't speak for Birmingham but I do know a referendum on a congestion charge in Manchester resulted in a 90% rejection vote
Yeah, but my point is that Khan doesn't need those votes, whereas Starmer probably does. On the other hand, Khan probably gets most of his votes from a largely pro-ulez crowd, whereas the current Labour party have decided they can maybe afford to take that lot for granted on a national level. It's not really surprising that you'd see one equivocating and the other taking responsibility.
This result was clearly influenced by a local issue which the Tories used to their advantage - despite it being their policy - initiated by Johnson and forced through by Grant Schapps. The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.
There are many many people who still wouldn't accept that there is an issue if the whole of Europe was neck deep in flood water every month. Its very depressing. The fossil fuel lobby industry is now in full on attack mode. Its everywhere. I am just waiting for the govt to roll back on the ICE car 2030 deadline. Whichever govt it is that caves, of whatever colour, would be guaranteed to never get my vote again.
I worked at Blacburn meadows stw. Lots of the time I was at YW. The air quality in the Surrounding area was poor to say the least. Mainly from the M1. And the Tinsley (meadowhall) viaduct. It's why there are speeding restrictions in place. Between J35 and J33. People. especially in the offices close by. Were/are subject to high levels of pollution.
Hopefully they will see an improvement in the air quality that will ensure that they have a good quality of life
