    So we currently have

    Kane
    Connell
    Phillips
    Styles
    Benson
    Russell
    Wolfe

Obvs Benson and Wolfe are seemingly made of poppadoms and should have fragile written on the side. But signing another midfield player with our financials doesn't make much sense. We have the academy lads pushing for contention as well.

I think I'd be looking to offload 2 of them. or sell 1 and Wolfe out on loan for the season if he can regain fitness.

Then we need a player capable of that little added creativity and vision.

If Styles doesn't go this summer I'm not sure who will be more disappointed between him and the club...

We have to put Benson and Woolfe in bouble wrap for away games just in case we hit a speed bump.

If Styles did end up at Watford, do you reckon we could take Matty Pollock as the defender we need as a make-weight in the deal? Worth it? I am struggling to find good defenders who fit our algorithm, but Jimmy Dunne from QPR always looked very solid and they are having a bit of an upheaval under Ainsworth. I saw Caleb Taylor on loan from Baggies to Cheltenham Town last season and he would be a great Mads mark two - wins almost everything in the air and growingly competent on the deck. We need to spend a fair slice of the Mads money for an additional central defender. I haven't a clue about Scottish players, but there must be a few good uns up there.

Watford have just had a transfer ban lifted, so that rumoured interest in Styles might finally come to something.

If QPR were to move Dunne on, I'd be surprised if he couldn't find another championship club.

I will be surprised if Styles doesn't go. We'll hold out for the fee that was undoubtedly part of the contract he signed last summer, which is probably putting a few clubs off at the minute, but as the end of the transfer window looms, there'll be clubs who can easily afford that type of money, who have missed out on their preferred option, and he'll go there. And probably not play all that much.

We've plenty of traditional type central midfielders. I'd argue some of the best in the division. I reckon there's a few combinations of three that would see us dominate midfield in most matches (which is why I can't understand the pessimism this close season). I'd like to see us sign someone who can pick the ball up and run with it. Like Thomas could do at his best, but someone who can do it much more consistently. Maybe Cotter or the new lad from Forest Green can be that player. If not, that's the type of player I'd like to see us sign.

I can see us signing one more, maybe on loan. Particularly if Styles leaves and Wolfe & Benson are long term injured. I'd like to see Ackroyd step up. You feel its a make or break season for him, and he may only get his chance in the Papa John's to impress.

Russell needs to up his game from last season, but I think there's certainly a player in there.

But when they're all fully fit and available, there's not many midfield trio's as good as Kane, Phillips and Connell in this league.
