    Annoyingly, his advice wasn’t wrong. If you find yourself in that situation you absolutely should talk to your bank. Extending the mortgage term is probably the correct thing to do in the short term if it’s an option too, as it will bring the monthly payment down. The bit he missed off is what he’s going to do to help the caller and others like them in the longer term. He just doesn’t care and clearly thinks it’s people’s own fault and screw them.

    So despite never claiming a penny in owt, being in full employment and paying full NI since the age of 18 and plenty in taxes, I now find myself as an "economically inactive", "responsible for placing strain on the labour market, to blame for many employers struggling to recruit, and am part of the reason for high inflation".

    I’m over 50. I work in Sheffield centre and it takes all my energy to jump out of the way of those Deliveroo and Just Eats idiots on their bikes as they come hurtling behind you at speed on the pavements and pedestrian areas. Two hats, the lot of them.
