Don't waste your time Fonzie, they are all as bad as each other with this 'point scoring', on both the positive and negative sides. There's absolutely no need for it, surely.
Tbf this thread was a bit tongue in cheek - I think whichever way the result went today there would have been a few weirdos posting bilge.
Yeah well we move on, and what a result that was ehh, it should be in your top music of all time thread (even though its not a song!).
Just as one win means nothing. One or two defeats mean the same. Best time to judge a new team And manager (in terms of fairness) is Christmas time. I’ve seen us hammer teams and do nothing. I’ve seen us lose to team heavily and have successful seasons. In some respects the first half reminded me of the time we lost 6-1 away to tranmere when we battered them. Though second half Vale went to pieces. Great start from the team. In terms of result all you could want. Performance first half against a better team wouldn’t be good enough. Luckily the division is significantly weaker this time round.
I’m probably one of those that’s considered by many as a ‘happy clapper’, whatever that means. Personally I’m not getting too carried away about today. As brilliant as it was, for me it was one of them surreal freak matches, where everything on target flew in. Funnily enough I thought our first was slightly against the run of play, and up to that I thought we looked very average. Second half we just steamrollered em. Everyone was brilliant, apart from Watters, who I thought looked anonymous the whole game. I reckon we may have landed another couple of crackers in Roberts and Lopata. But we’re 1 game in. It could be a taste of things to come, it could also prove to be a complete freak result. Phenomenal start though…
It's more the fact that anyone who defended the club selling Norwood or had any positive view was labeled a happy clapper, we needed a new striker new defenders, we would struggle to pick up points from the opening 5 games negativity was rife on here and it has been all pre season. It was a great result and a great 2nd half but like you say lose next Saturday to Bristol and the negativity will be back. So just enjoy the win.
Guy near me 5 mins in: ‘Cole’s like a bag of cement’. After Cole’s 3rd goal: twirling scarf around in the air and dancing.
Let's be right if Norwood had scored a hatrick and oldham had won 4 nil instead of getting dicked 4 nil and we had lost to port Vale and not scored the pitch forks would be out and it would be toxic on here. Thankfully this hasn't happened few people eating abit of humble pie were all mates enjoy the win.
My main gripe has been people knocking the club for signing from non-league, when our recruitment from down the pyramid has typically been quite productive. Lopata and Shepherd both impressed, and Dallas got a goal. It's early days of course but I think people may have forgotten that this league isn't particularly strong. Targeted signings like Lopata and Dallas can certainly contribute this season and it was unfair for people to write them off out of hand. Hopefully this will be kept in mind in future.
Not a lot wrong with today's effort. Even when they attacked we coped, defence were cool, calm and collected, when the ball did get through our new keeper did the job, brilliant . Everybody played their part, I hope O'keefe's injury isn't much he did well. New strikers performed and slotted in well. What were the downsides, couldn't really think of any.
I think there's some truth in that. Same on Twitter and Facebook. There are groups of fans I know or who I'm in other internet groups with that rarely mention any of the negative points that have been on here or twitter. We've had 9000 season ticket holders sign up and another 1500 who paid for a ticket just for today. The atmosphere from the 100s we served in the fan zone was positive and looking forward to a new season. I bet the %age of those 10.5K fans in attendance that have been truly negative in recent weeks is only very small. Don't get me wrong, I get some of the concerns that people have had about the team, but we recruited well last summer. It seems to me we should at least see them play competitively and bed in before forming an opinion on how well or badly we've done this close season. I know one swallow doesn't make a summer, but there were plenty of positives to be taken from some of the players we've recruited today. We have the core of a really good team from last year anyway and we've added Styles to that (for now at least). Let's have a bit more patience and hopefully, this is the start of a good run. Fingers crossed!
Go on then I will put in a few posts I made about Jon Russell https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/russell-last-night.319591/#post-3068615 https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/jon-russell-starts-for-jamaica.323122/#post-3137120
Good post. your egativjty comment is interesting and points to the fact that the moaners and whingers on here are in the minority. There were 12000 of us in that ground today who all wanted one thing. No moaning from kick off. no anti club rhetoric from kick off. What that illustrates for me is that the shouting and screaming voices of doom on here are very much in the minority. And for them who continue to moan and groan, whatever the results this season, just think on that you're a tiny tiny voice.
Points well scored my friend. for too long people on here who try to preach patience and perspective are hammered by the constant whingeing of people who have nothing but vitriol aimed at the club.
