He was terrible but more for letting us get away with a blatant penalty Kitching should’ve conceded at 0-0
There were 70 yellow cards in league one yesterday. Average almost 6 per game. I'd guess a majority of those related to the new rules which are being aggressively implemented. All players have been made aware of what constitutes a booking this season and it is up to them to stop the annoying little things that stop the game from flowing. If they don't, maybe they will if their clubs fine them when they are suspended for totting up. Then again, like new rule implementation in the past, maybe refs will be aggressive for the first month or so then be a bit more lenient.
Very poor ref, determined to be the centre of attention. I think there were maybe 3 incidents worthy of a yellow; O' Keefe and Cotter both being poleaxed - no cards shown - and the one by Russell which did get a card. Oh and there was one near the end where he did book a Vale player.
He was poor but we had much worse last season He didn’t get any major decisions wrong if you exclude the cards. I thought he favoured them with Free kicks but I know I am biased. as for added time he got that right. There was a guy behind me timing the stoppages I think in an official capacity and he timed nearly 7 mins first half and 10 second stopping his watch for injuries goal celebrations and substitutions I have a big issue on yellows though leaving aside the booking of our Keeper which was too stupid for words he only booked our players for time wasting but not theirs for similar offences. as others have said there wasn’t really a bad foul in the game but if booking Kane and Russell for serious fouls there were at least 3 challenges from their players worthy of one as well in addition to the one he did give. I thought Kanes booking was particluarly harsh. Was wavering between a 4 and a 5 but in the end gave him a 5
Giving keeper a yellow for time wasting at 6 up was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. And you are meant to get warned 1st before the card is given and told to speed up.
4/10 gave him 1 for turning up and 1 for his shiney boots. Was never a 8 yellows game and one for time wasting was a joke like he was on a box ticking exercise.
He was definitely not the greatest ref we have ever seen. But to give him 0 or 1 seems ridiculous to me and is not being objective at all. A score of 0 suggests he is just about one of the worst refs we have ever had. We had several that were far worse just in the last year.
I gave him 1/10. He was awful and we’d be complaining more if the result wasn’t as flattering. The moral of the story is to score 7 goals whenever we have a toss ref. It’s the only way to be sure.
I’m being very generous by giving him a 4. Too officious and as per usual inconsistent with incidents and punishments. Too many sympathy decisions went Vale’s way in the latter stages.
There was one incident where the ball went out for a goal kick by the corner flag. Roberts was about to pick up a multiball from the side of the goal when the ref signalled him to fetch the original ball from the corner flag! 5 points off for not booking himself for time wasting.
Case in point. Leicester Coventry. A lot of injury time given. Ok. But four bookings in total, justified for fouls, with no over officious yellow cards for time wasting. Despite nobody being in an obvious rush whenever the ball hasn’t been in play. It wasn’t the tightening of the rules that was the issue yesterday. It was David Rock not understanding it, acting like the big man and being bloody inconsistent.
I gave him a 3, nearly all the bookings were ridiculous.Anybody not at Oakwell would have thought it was carnage reading the stats after.
His decisions were inconsistent for me, giving some innocuous fouls & letting some go for no reason - the foul on Cotter by the dugout was atrocious &. I thing yet booked a reds player for apparently looking at the other player funny. It he did t fall for the blatant dive early on!
