Without getting into details, what is the broad point you're trying to make:

Is it that the treatment of asylum seekers is better than it should be?

Or that there should be less asylum seekers?

Or both?

Would be great to hear your solutions as well.

 

This thread is as depressing as it is predictable.

The Bibby Stockholm housing immigrants is pretty much the most ridiculous notion I’ve ever heard.

It will be overcrowded, with nowhere near enough capacity in the public areas or canteen, with nowhere near enough capacity for any of the ‘activities’ that are said to be available - and at a cost per day that works out higher than the cost of staying on a luxury ocean liner on a cruise. It is being done as a popularity stunt, nothing more. Every man put on that barge could be accommodated with much better conditions for a much lower cost. If they spent even a fraction of what they are on this white elephant on actually putting in place a proper asylum policy, proper screening and legal safe passage - they could do all of that for a fraction of what they are spending now - then the small boat problem goes away. The Tory government created this - but it isn’t actually in their interests to do the obvious thing to fix it, as then they have nothing to shout about to get mouths frothing before the next election. They are literally wasting billions and conning the gullible into believing it’s the migrants fault and that they’re fighting to end this for them. They aren’t. They are bloody playing you for a fool and you are gobbling it up like a good loyal dog.

The usual suspects quoting the lies from the daily heil or the bloody sun, buying into the rhetoric, it’s honestly depressing.

There are plenty of sources out there that quote how few refugees we end up taking compared to other countries. There are many sources which tell you that the reasons people come here aren’t ones of over generosity as pretty much all of Europe offer more than the U.K. does. They come here as they have family links and know some English - or are convinced to by trafficking gangs.

But you won’t believe it. You won’t listen. You’ll swallow the propaganda and carry on being a little Englander.

There are many people on this thread this doesn’t apply to. You’ll know who you are.

If you are wondering if it applies to you, then it probably does.

You are aware that they aren’t ran like 4 star hotels, aren’t you? They’ve crammed multiple strangers in small rooms with services no longer running; they’re not getting room service and massages.

 

That one at Manvers is horrible as an example. There was a few photos leaked online a few months back - looked worse than the shathole I lived in at uni.

Oh and god forbid these poor people pop outside for fresh air or a walk round Manvers Lake. Then they get accused of HANGING AROUND or LOITERING.

Still looks alot better than callis and I never said they were loitering around manvers but when on a night out in a seaside town and big groups of lads and hanging around at 11pm I'd class that as loitering
