At one point he was like the League One Messi, but it’s always been an open secret that he’s a massive nob off the field which is why it took him ages for a club higher up to buy him.

Hopefully the courts throw the book at him and he’s not another footballer or someone with ‘fame’ that gets let off easy with the sickening thing he has done.

Even pleading guilty, he should be seeing prison time for it. I hope the judge doesn't see his admission of guilt as a reason to go soft on him.

Be some stories about him in time to come. Got up to all sorts of weird stuff when he played for Hull.

If you plead guilty you automatically lessen the maximum punishment, not up to individual judges. I agreed though, that level of violence should see prison time.

This must be one of the least convincing defence arguments I have ever heard

"Maddison’s defence told the court that he acted under the influence of alcohol and in a moment of panic after falling over – not being able to escape because of an injury – and that he wasn’t aware of the women’s age or vulnerability until being told afterwards."
Not sure where to start with that one. Cant see him ever playing professional football again

I don't blame the individual judges but it's a rule that should b changed imo.

Pleading guilty should be the default and carry with it the standard penalty for the crime. Pleading not guilty should if convicted of the crime, constitute an additional 5 years added to the sentence regardless of the crime. Please not guilty to a crime you'd usual get a suspended sentence for? Tough you're serving 5 years.

Does this not just increase the risk of miscarriages of justice by forcing those who can't reasonably afford to defend themselves to plead guilty or face even tougher punishments? Sounds a lot like the system in the US and they've got a shocking rate of incarceration.
